Check 'brightness' and 'contrast' settings in (usually) 'picture' menu. Use a recording (DVD etc.) of a dark scene to adjust the picture. My TV (not Sharp) has several pre-programmed picture settings. If yours has that, maybe one of them will be good. Otherwise, use manual settings.
A lot of people don't realize that backlight settings can affect the picture.
Go to the menu (press menu on your remote)
The menu will show picture options. Just toy with different settings until you find what you want. It may be on a preset setting that doesn't work. If you are in a bright room, you will need to increase brightness and contrast and perhaps backlight.
Usually an unclear picture is due to the contrast, backlight, and brightness settings being too low. You can also increase sharpness.
I suggest a contrast setting of 70, a brightness setting of 60-80, and a backlight setting of above 80.
Hello
You can adjust the brightness control on your 19PR19 Philips Tv. For that you have to go to picture contol menu
Do it as follows
To adjust your TVs picture control, select a channel and follow these steps.
[1] Press the Menu Button on the remote control to display onscreen menu.
[2] Press Cursor up or Cursor Down button until the word Brightness is hilighted. For each press of Cursor Up or Cursor Down button you can go through Colour, Picture, Sharpness, Tint, Colour temp etc, depending on the adjustment you want to make.
[3] Press Cursor right or Cursor Left buttons to increase or decrese the selected option. Ok.
You have problem with convergence. Have you tried adjusting in the users menu. This is a common problem in this type of TV, usually two convergence amp need to be replaced and sometimes sets of resistors are also to be changed.
Hello Paul. I have this same monitor, but rebranded, Access the service menu with the remote control:
With user’s RC 1. Power TV On 2. Press Menu button and call up User OSD Menu 3. Select Sound-> Balance 4. When Balance value is “0”,Enter 0->5->3 ->2 in sequence. Note: If necessary, re-do number keys. 5. Factory OSD appears. 6. Press the standby button then AC turn off and restart the TV, which can exit factory OSD menu.
Now you will be able to change the values for Red Green and Blue channels. I also hated this TV, but after adjusting the colors it's looking great! Hope you could fix it too! :)
Todd, In the user menue there has got to be adjustments for the brightness, contrast, sharpness, etc. I know there is no such thing as a simple tv anymore. On some sets if you do not have a remote control, you cannot make any adjustments. If you have one for this set and it works, trust me, the settings are in the on screen menue.
Hope this helps,
Skyassoc
you need to adjust the settings in either the video settings by right clicking on an empty spot on the desktop and selecting properties, then settings, then the advanced tab, that will allow you to bring up the video settings where you can actually adjust the 3d and color settings for the "video", not the desktop but the "video". that will alter the way the moving pictures and video look, also there are also settings in whatever "player" you are using also in the properties menu of media player, win amp, etc, they all have setting controls.
