Cd drive not reading disk

Click start control panel administration tools computer management device manager scroll down cd-dvd rom drives you might see a yellow question /exclamation mark ? ! or a red X right click to update driver

You might have to physically unplug the leads for this cd/dvd computer then plug them back in restart your this should activate the found new hardware wizard.

If this does not fix the problem it might be a registry problem

"you only need to do the following"

if you cant see your disk drive in windows explorer

Close all open programs
Click on Start, Run, and typeregedit and press Enter
Click on the plus signs (+) next to the following folders
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
SYSTEM
CurrentControlSet
Control
Class
{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
This folder is the DVD/CD-ROM Drive Class Description in the registry. Look for any of the following names in the right hand column.
Upper Filters
Lower Filters
Upper Filters.bak
Lower Filters.bak
If any of the above keys shown in step 4 are listed, right-click on them and choose Delete

After deleting the keys, close the registry editor
Reboot your computerOpen My Computer and check to see if your CD or DVD drives have returned.
You may also want to open Device Manager and verify that the yellow exclamation and error code on the CD or DVD drive is gone.

if this fails to fix the problem It could be a problem with the lens you could use a liquid type lens cleaner place 2-3 drops on top of a cd/dvd then run it

Slow speed

One way to make it run faster is to defrag the HDD. Go to Start->Control Panel->Admin Tools->Computer Management. here select Disk Defragmentor and then select your C: drive. Defrag it and then defrag the others too. You would find a marked difference in performance. Second way is to use a Windows Registry Cleaner. What happens is that with you installing and uninstalling programs, a lot of file bebris is left in the Windows registry. And the system has to read the registry very often, thus wasting a lot of time on things that are not there. If you search Google for Free Registry Cleaners, you will find many. Use it and trim the registry and you will find a tremendous difference in speed. My laptop used to take 40 minutes to boot at times till I cleaned the registry. Now it gallops like new.

Cd\dvd drive won't read software cd

Just a suggestion, try to update your drivers.. If you have installed any third party cd burner just uninstalled it. after uninstalling, clean the registry via ccleaner, regcure, or any other 3rd party cleaner... then update your drivers... most of the 3rd party cd burner software are damaging your cd drivers...

gud luck
