Insignia portable dvd player: disc not spinning

Hi, I insert a dvd, the screan reads "loading" for longer than usual and then I get a "no disc" message. When I pop it open, the disc isn't spinning, or is spinning very slowly. The unit was working fine this afternoon. Any suggestions? [I've turned it off/on (and waited a bit) many times, and tried different dvds -- to no avail.] Thanks in advance!

Thanks for your help, Simplemitch. Is this a normal a result of usage? Or due to flawed manufacture? I'm considering buying a Toshiba ($200) and wondering whether the same thing would eventually happen (possibly not so quickly). Any thoughts?

I HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM, and I doubt it is from over use as it has probably seen 10 DVD's tops. I believe the problem is ( they are just crap). Hope this helps, I myself will never buy another Insignia product and it is very doubtful I will purchase anything from a store that sells Insignia products.

Insignia portable DVD player. Played fewer than 100 hours, almost certainly. Started by freezing during play, then will not load discs, instead spinning for a while, and then claiming "No Disc." I have tried blowing off dust from the laser lens/cover with a photo bulb. Of course, I have tried a number of discs. I will not buy another Insignia product, unless I find a solution.

The laser has become damaged/worn-out. There is no fix for it as replacement parts are not made for it.

It's a bit of both. They are designed poorly so they wear out unusually fast. I haven't used the Toshibas to make a judgement, but I have had REALLY good experiences with the Sony models.

It could either be that the laser has become damaged/ worn-out; or all you have to do is plug your DVD player into the charger, leave it there for a few days & then turn it on & test it. Otherwise, it would be in your best intrest just to take it to the store you bought it from.

I purchased a toshiba portable dvd player and the disc is not spinning therefore reads no valid disc. I have put in a few discs still same reading? Any suggestions?

The Sled Motor is defective. this is the motor, whic spins the disc as it has been loaded properly. If the loader mechanism loads the disc properly into place and if the catch up magnet catches the disc in place, and still the dis do not spins, replace the sled motor. OK.

Disc doesn't spin

Check whether the disc inserted into the player spins. If it does not spins, replace the sled motor.

I have a digital labs model K715 dvd player. when i put a disc in, it spins, screen say its loading but will spin, stop, spin and stop again. Wont play the disc.

Try doing the following...

Making sure the "line select" has been switched from "in" instead of "out". Once you switch it back to "out", the player should work normally.

Hi my portable dvd player by insignia won't read

Try using a lens cleaner. Also, reset the unit to factory defaults. Ensure that the disk you are attempting to play is clean and scratch-free. If the problem persists, you may pursue service options through the place of purchase.

Dvd wont load

Try multiple store bought dvd's if all of them don't work then the dvd drive will need to be replaced. Usually the manufacturer will replace it instead of repairing. Repairing is usually as expensive as just buying a new one.

No longer loading dvds

You may have a bad laser. First, make sure the laser assy. travels back and forth easily, then make sure the table the disc sits on spins freely. If it still isn't reading, load a disc and immediatly flip it over to it's top and see if it works. Working or not, still a bad laser.

Plays CD but not DVD, says no disc

HI.This will occur when the optical assembly becomes unstable. this ((Whole One Piece)), assembly incorporates the spin/load motor, optics housing /arm, tracking device and tracking rail. This is connected to the loading dock assembly. This 'NO Disc' or CD NOT PLAYABLE, code is the result of a failed or burned out lens. It is possible that you have a dirty lens cap. you can try using a cleaning disk in this case to confirm actual lens failure. if the cleaning doesn't restore normal reading capabilities, this will confirm my diagnosis.

You will need to have the optical assembly replaced in this case. once replaced, your unit will be able to read and track once more.

Do other DVDs work? Try a music CD to see if it will work. If it does not work, then the Laser pickup unit is failing and will cost more to repair then replace the whole unit. Sorry for the bad news.

Thanks for reading!

Dvd player will not spin disk

Unfortunately, your DVD player is broken. Portable units like these often get bumped and jostled and the motor that spins the DVD quits (very small and fragile). Sorry, I wish there were a magic button.
