Modifying the Makita DC18SC from 110V to 220/240V

Hi Guys!

I have the Makita DC18SC charger for 110V. Can it be convertet to 220/240V by using the same components as described in the guide for modifying the older DC18RA (http://www.schneordesign.com/Avi/Makita/makita_mod1.htm)?
Do you eventually know where to get a guide if the one mentioned wont work?

Best regards

    Hi Fame

The link you send me only have the original parts, I want to modify the original PCB component so the unit will work on 240V instead og 110V. The older model (DC18RA) already have a guide how to modify it, but there seem to be some changes in the layout, and I want to be sure about how to modify the PCB before I start (don't wanna fry my charger :-) I'm looking for a how-to-do and which parts to be used for the conversation. Can the original and older guide be used with the same replacement parts for the DC18RA as the DC18SC in spite of the layout differences?

Looking for the electrical solution in order to modify the PCB on the Makita DC18SC charger from 110V to 220/240V

If your charger looks like this, here are the mod instructionshttp://www.byggebolig.no/index.php/topic...

I would also advise changing the MOSFET to a 2SK3679. Available on eBay.
Once you have made the changes, the charger works on both 110 and 220v. All you have done is upgraded the voltage ratings of the varistor, input caps, and MOSFET.

This is the same charger - with updated chassis... and it's a FAST charger.
They used larger capacity diodes - and nothing else has changed!

see this parts blowup of the DC18sc to verify

The mod looks as if it will work on both similarly!!

Thanks for using FixYa!!

My charger is accidentaly connect into 220v and this is burn. im here in philippine. its this to repair and i use again...

Is this a 110Volt version that you plugged into 220v?

There is a ceramic Fuse inside the unit that might be blown. It is the first thing on the circuit board near the power cord connection.

Open the unit up and post a photo of any burned components ?

I have the Makita DC18ra s charger for 110V. by mistake i insert it to 220and burn the fuse and a components as described on the borad VDR1 01 Do someone knew what is this components thank alon

yes you can fix it i have done 2 charges but white you are in there if you chance the large round capacitor to a 450v one you then can use the charger in 220 v you will have to increase the size of the voltage resistant diode to 240v (the vrd101 part in the charger) or by pass it with a straight bridge then the charger should work in 220v because the rest of the charger is exactly the same the parts will be around $10 ibought the parts from farnell

Maybe sometimes it is the battery do you have 2 batteries you can check it with if it charges the other then its just the battery .If you have a local industrial distributor in the area usually they can test it for you

DC18SC CHARGER NOT WORKING

If you have an older charger with a model number that has "RA".
That is the problem. Their were some issues with that charger.
It has been replaced with a model that has a "S" at the end.

Contact Makita. Those batteries are under warranty.
