LCD screen is blank when lap top is on

I have a Toshiba A15-S129 notebook. When the power is on, the LCD screen is blank..nothing. I tried the tips listed in the troubleshooting guide for my model(hold Fn down and press F5 repeatedly), however, the screen still remains blank. The only thing I have not tried is to see if the "hinge" is hanging up..Do I have to take the screen apart to do this? Any suggestions on how to get my picture back on the screen? Thanks...

After posting my problem with the LCD screen on the Toshiba Satellite laptop, I located a solution which worked from a different laptop model. I checked the memory chips to make sure they were clean and didn't come loose. After reinstalling the memory, laptop has been working great and my LCD screen is working properly...thanks for the help!

This is very irritating. I am having this problem with winbook si. Same thing. Goes to boot up and can't get it to stay on. try toggle f1 and f2, nothing except f1 comes on for 1 second then black again. wondering about the hinge deal, but also maybe hardware problem. tried cleaning f1 key, no help. afraid to try other. any help appreciated, poor student. thanks !

I had exactly the same problem on our new Satellite and Steve1043's solution worked. Just took off the memory cover, pushed on the memory cards to make sure they we in place, put the cover back on and it was fixed. Thanks.

    I've determined it's a hinge/ribbon cable problem. Now what?

I would suggest ensuring it's not video chipset. You have a VGA (monitor) conenctor on the back of that, plug in a regular computer moniter and see if it works. If it boots on the monitor you know it's a display problem(hinge, ribbon cable), if it still doesn't boot, it's a hardware problem(video card, main board). Let me know what happens, try cleaning the hing with rubbing alchol & a q-tip Good luck Hope this Helps!

My soultion may be costly. The reason I say that is taking apart a lap top is no walk in the park. In many cases you will need special tools plus if you pull one part to far you might rip the delicate cable that sends the signal to your lcd screen. When it comes to lap tops and hardware problems its better to leave it to the manufacture to fix. I know this is not a solution but I just want to give you a heads up of what kind of problems you will run into if you try to fix it yourself. I would call manufacture see if there is a recall or somekind of tech service. Then you will be rest assured that it will be repaired properly and there will not be more problems that you caused when you opened it up.

Hello, Can I install a 512MB DDR DIMM, N mem stick taken out of my Dell Desktop into a Toshiba Satellite A15, S129 laptop? Thanks, RD

You can try, without fear of having your laptop "blow-up".

Turn your laptop off.

Remove the battery.

Physically, does the RAM fit into the RAM slot? If not, the answer is 'no' -- most "desktop" RAM is much bigger than most "notebook" RAM.

If it fits, connect the AC power, and turn the computer on.
If it beeps wildly, or does not beep at all, the RAM is incompatible.
Disconnect the AC power.

Remove the RAM.

Re-insert the "old" RAM.

Re-insert the battery.

Reconnect the AC power.

Do a Google-search for "RAM upgrade Satellite A15" to find sellers that sell compatible RAM.

DC power light is blinking orange on my Toshiba Satellite a15-s1292. Nothing else is working.

In general this indicates a problem with the power supply, this a very difficult error code to decipher unless you are familiar with hexadecimal code. I suggest you contact Toshiba Technical Support.

Did the computer ever work? Have you checked that your memory is properly seated? Remove the bottom plate that reveals the memory modules, pop both loose then back in. Try to restart. Is the battery fully seated?
