Hard disk access terribly slow - Sony VAIO VGN CR490

My hard disk access has become terribly slow and hence all applications run very very slow. I verified and ensured that it is indeed a hard disk access problem since the CPU and memory usage were not much. The hard disk LED blinks continuously. I also lost a couple of files' contents. When this happened, I immediately stopped using that laptop and switched to another one. It seems to me to be a hardware issue but I wanted to confirm before I take it to the service center.

Often times, when a PC has be used for a long period of time, information becomes fragmented on the disk, causing read errors and various problems similar to what your experiencing.

To rectify this issue:

Start > All Programs > Accessories > System Tools > "Disk Defragmenter"

I would also suggest using a free tool called Ccleaner. This is a wonderful maintenance tool.

Please visit this site for the download:

This utility coupled with a defrag should solve your issue.

Please let us know if you have any more issues, as it may be related to Malware.

If you found this information helpful, and it solved your problem, please take a moment to rate the solution. Thank you.

Hi, there: there are a number of reasons causing your Sony Vaio laptop or desktop PC running slow or freezing. Common ones include lack of free disk space, registry corruption or redundancy, overload startup programs, virus attack, fragmented hard drive etc.

There are manual ways to get all those issues fixed but it costs time and energy, and most importantly it needs technical skills. So I'll recommend a quick yet easy speed up solution, as you can see here: http://www.sonyvaioslow.com/

Hi, own a Sony Vaio VGN P530H with hardisk Toshiba MK6028GAL damaged. as forced to replace unit, wonder could install a higher capacity? Brand & model if available please!!! thanks to all of you!!!

The VAIO VGN-T350 is a notebook computer designed and distributed by Sony.
The hard drive on your Sony VAIO VGN-T350, which is the unit that stores data, consists of many clusters of data that can be rewritten with new data.
If you are looking for a memory capacity upgrade, or if your old hard drive is having errors, it's time for an upgrade.
Upgrading the hard drive on your Sony VAIO will require the use of a screwdriver and will take you about 30 minutes to complete.

Turn off your Sony VAIO VGN-T350 and remove the power cord and any other peripheral components.
Turn over your Sony VAIO VGN-T350 and locate the hard drive chamber on the bottom of your laptop. It will be clearly labeled.

Use the screwdriver to remove the screw holding the lid in place.
Gently lift the hard drive and its cage away from your laptop and disconnect the data cord.
Remove the four screws located at the corners, and then remove your old hard drive from its cage.
Place your new internal laptop hard drive into the cage and replace the screws.
Connect the data cord to your new hard drive and place your new hard drive into its chamber.
Close the lid and replace the screw to complete the operation.

This might not be your specific laptop it might give you an insight into the hard drive installation.

Ebay this hard drive should fit there are smaller capacity drives that will be compatible.

what are you using to reformat the hdd? if you havent formatted the hdd using any retail version of od disc, youmay try to access the vaio recovery partition.. that is when you restart the computer, then press f10 key repeatedly for 5-7secs. it will load vaio recovery center. then from there, select restore c: drive. follow on-screen instruction and it will format the hdd. process may take for 45mins up to an hour

Sony Vaio VGN-TXN29N slow start up and battery

Probably full of spyware / clogged by programs.

Remove / uninstall any existing spyware program(s)
Download Malwarebytes(FREE) / install / full scan / delete all infections.
Ensure you have aPAID anti-virus program installed / update / full scan.

Open My Computer / right click on / C drive / properties /disk cleanup (Tick all boxes) / remove all files surplus / OK it as quite safe to do so.

Perform defragment. Start / Programs / accesories / system tools / defragmenter.

Go to Start / run / type in msconfig / enter / select start up / untick all BUT antivirus and malware program / close / reboot / tick box that pops up upon reboot.

This will absolutely speed up your Laptop. Perform this every week and you will never need for Tech assistance again!! (Except the msconfig one)

Sony Vaio VGN-NR498E recovery disk

Hello

Well, the recovery disks won't allow you to go to your present system. The recovery disks are designed to put everything back the way it was when you bought the computer, minus all your applications and data. If it's your data that you need then a reputable repair service like mine can slave your hard drive to another system and recover all your data (not applications), provided the hard drive has not electronically or mechanically malfunctioned. Again, a reputable repair person can tell you the status of the hard drive.

Thanks

Sony Vaio VGN-FS980 is slow

Aside from hardware many things can slow up your PC:
  • If the C: drive is too full Windows is unable to allocate a proper virtual memory cache on the drive.
  • Your chosen anti-virus solution can even slow certain machines down (post what your running)
  • A high % of the time it is spyware/malware related
Just to make sure the machine is completely malware free you should download and run this program.

Sony VAIO VGN-FJ3M/W does not boot.

Possible hard disk failure or hard disk controller failure.
if you feel confident remove the hard disk and replace - obviosuly make sure that there is not power running and remove the battery - replace hard disk then battery then power and try again.

Do you get any beeps? is the hard disk clicking? listen carefully to it and post your findings.
