Check to see if your fuel solenoid on the bottom of the carburetor is working. To do this, turn the key on and off a couple of times and listen for a "clicking" sound or with someone else turning the key, hold the solenoid between your thumb and fingers and see if you "feel" it clicking on and off

SOURCE: should the fuel filter have

Yes, fuel system is gravity fed. If there is fuel in the tank, there should be fuel in the filter.

Hi, I have a 13.5hp Briggs & Stratton motor which starts and will only run on choke slow rpms and mild smoke.

check the point where the fuel hose goes to the fuel tank
there is very fine filter in the hose that could be blocked preventing full fuel flow
only running on choke indicates insufficient fuel flow

Lincoln ranger 8 and kohler engine command 20. engine does not pull gas to carburetor. Putting little gas directly in carburetor; machine runs until finish gasoline inside carburator.

engines don't "pull" fuel to carb , it either gravity flows (tank over top carb) there or its pumped there , I do believe the kohler engines from 8 hp thru 25 hp use a vacuum activated fuel pump (three hoses on it) these do go bad over time and need replaced , also there are fuel filters on all these engines that need to be replaced seasonally they are not cleanable there disposable

Fuel pump problem

I am pretty sure that your mower doesn't have a fuel pump... What kind is it? Mowers are gravity fed and pulled by the carb suction. Carb dirty or bad= no fuel flow. Check the outlet of the tank there could be a piece of trash in it or in the fuel line preventing flow. Try a new filter and make sure the correct filter is installed as it will cause those symptoms. Also if it cranks an runs like normal without you dumping gas manually in carb, then its fine. Not all filters are going to be totally filled especially the wrong ones. Half is normal. Id need more details to know give you an sure accurate answer.

Mower carburator trouble i think

Soooo...You haven't said what the problem is. What "result" is the same?? Is it stalling or is it just not running at full power? If it starts fine and idles fine but then stalls or doesn't have power when you juice it, it sounds like a fuel problem. It is unlikely a carb issue if it gets regular use and as long as its not sitting for long periods of time. I would first check the fuel filter. If that's fine, then I would check the vent hole on the gas cap (if you have one). If it is a gravity-fed fuel system and the vent hole on the gas cap is clogged with dirt, dust, and debris, then the gas will not flow to the carb fast enough and you'll get a very lean mixture. Sure, it will idle fine because the engine isn't demanding much fuel at idle, but when you open up the throttle it will stall because the air:fuel ratio will be too high (symptomatic of a lean mixture) Last thought: Dirty air filter Hope this helps

Sounds like you have a stuck float needle in the carbs (2). Usually after a few days with gas in the carb they will free up, you could 'knock' on the carbs with the plastic end of a screwdriver to help free them up. If not, turn off fuel, drain the carbs and fill them with carb cleaner for 24 hours. Redrain, attach fuel lines and turn the gas back on. If still no start it's time for a rebuild...

Lawnmower sat up for a season would not crank replaced sparkplugs air filter fuel filter hose fuel pump is pumping gas to carburator but still will not start unless you pour some gas into the carburator or...

If it will start when you pour gas then its a fuel problem on some of these they have a screw at the bottom of the carb remove that and see if you have bad fuel. If that does not work then remove the carb and service it may just be a stuck float or something

Petrol in my engine oil chamber why

If you're getting fuel into your oil, your fuel delivery system is leaking. This problem is most common on carburated engines. The needle valve is not seating properly and when the engine is stopped, the carburator is flooding and the fuel is flowing into the engine. Once it gets into intake manifold, it seeps past the valves into the cylinder. Then it seeps past the rings into the crankcase contaminating the oil. If your bike is fuel injected, the same thing is happening because the fuel is pressurized by the fuel pump and your injector(s) are leaking fuel into the engine.

On a carb equipped machine there us usually a petcock to turn the fuel off with. You can either turn the petcock off each time you turn the bike off (a good practice) or you can have the carburator repaired. Some late model bikes have a vacuum operated petcock that automatically turns the fuel off when the engine is stopped. If your bike is equipped with this type of petcock, the petcock could be defective or is positioned in the "prime" position. If you go into the carbs (I think your bike has two carbs), replace the needle and check the float height setting according to the manual in both carbs.

If your bike is fuel injected, these devices are usually not easily servicable, simply replaced if they malfunction. You could try adding a bit of fuel injector cleaner designed for automotive use to your fuel. It may clean the injector (or needle in the case of carburators) and solve the problem. Otherwise, I'd probably take the bike to a repair shop.

Good Luck!

Carb not getting fuel

I have fuel flow (gravity flow) past the fuel filter. I can start the engine after putting fuel into the carb. but it does not pump any fuel from the fuel line. Gas burns in the carb and engine dies. How do I check any of the componets without replacing them?

42 inch Craftsman carburator not getting any gas. You can spray quick start and will will fire. Does gas from tank gravity feed to filter?

gas tank gravity feeds fuel to the carb. if you pull the fuel line from the carb, fuel should flow out of the tube. if it does not, then either the vent hole on the gas cap is plugged or there are contaminents at the bottom of the gas tank preventing fuel from flowing into the fuel line.
