First, Grab this users guide:

http://www.2wire.com/pages/pdfs/2701HG_user_guide.pdf

Second, Access the interface:

Open a Web browser entering http://gateway.2wire.net.

To access this page, your organization must have the Remote Management feature
enabled. If the feature is not enabled, an error message will display when you click the link to
access this page. See the guide on setting this up, though you should be fine with your current settings. Assure that you can log-in to the Remote Management Feature using the user name and password originally established, or follow the instructions if you are unaware of these credentials.

Then access The Local Network - Address Allocation page shows the name and IP address of each device on the gateway’s local network, and allows you to create DHCP mappings for each device.

This will show all the PC's connected. If you number is higher than the PC's that you have, you may have a free-loader.

View your manual about setting up MAC filtering to prevent this from occurring. Also, please consider setting encryption or "WPA"/"WPA2" up on your router to prevent unauthorized access or viewing of your traffic.

I hope this information helps.

Hi,
You need to log on to your router/s and look at the log.
You should also change your security settings in your router/s so this won't happen again.

Good Luck!

Can't start my wireless modem

I think the problem is you cannot connect to the internet wirelessly using your laptop. The problem may lie in the modem or in the laptop itself.
First you need to isolate the problem. That is, determine if the laptop or your modem is the one that has the problem. If you can connect to the internet using your laptop in someone elses home network or free wifi outside your home, then the problem is your modem. BTW, modems don't have the capability to connect wireless devices to the internet. You need a wireless router. If what you have is a router, you're on the right track.
If your laptop can detect your home network, try connecting to it. If you're getting an error, call your Internet Service Provider. They should be able to help you fix the problem. Also, try updating the driver of your laptop's wireless card. You can do this by hardwiring your laptop onto your router, go to device manager, right click on your wireless card, then hit update driver. If nothing works, call your laptop's OEM.

My windows xp home is slow on loading websites as compared to other machines on the same wireless. What could be the reason for this

There could be many possible reasons for your machine being slow loading websites:

- Do you have a lot of programs running in the background?
- Are you using the same browser as the other machines on your network?
- Does your computer have as much RAM as the other computers?
- Is your wireless adapter as fast as the adapters on the other computers?

My router is limiting my network traffic

You router have limited NAT table size and if you use P2P this will slow down your network traffic for sure. The second reason is ports not forwarded and outbound connections cannot reach your PC. To solve both problems, download and install Router Commander that unleashes NAT table and forward ports automatically.

I cant solve your trouble based on what you are telling me ... but I would make the phone company fix it if I were you. If they cant accomodate the paying customer, there is always the cable company as an alternative.

I have a ps3 and when i try and connect it, It wont let me and i dont no my ip address or subnet mask or default router or primary and secondary DNS can someone help me and im using wireless

To make things easy, you can set your Playstation 3 to obtain all the network information automaticlly. All you would need to provide is the SSID (Name) of your wireless network and the encryption password (if you have one enabled).

On Your PS3:

"Goto settings

Goto network settings

Goto network connection, select enable

Goto Internet connection settings just below internet connection-
Push yes when it says you may be disconnected

Select wired or wireless

For wireless use scan or enter manually

Follow on screen instructions.

Once that is set up return to main menu and go to network near the right

Then once in the internet browser press triangle and goto file and enter the internet address you would like visit. "

Broadband Speed

First make sure that you don't have any devices straining the network. Culprits of this could be spyware on one of your user's machines, someone downloading large amounts on your network, and an unsecured network that allows anyone to connect.

A possible way to eliminate the router being the issue would be to disable the wireless access through the router's administrative panel, and then connecting directly to the router with an ethernet cable. Before doing this run a speed test at http://www.speedtest.net/ and then disable the wireless.Try surfing the web to see if there is a noticeable difference, and then run another speed test.

Internet runs slow or freezes on my wired desktop when I use the internet on my wireless laptop.

Hi tech_newbie.... Need a little more info... how is your wireless connected.. ethernet /Usb... or true wireless... and vice versa for desktop. where is your wireless router situated... what times are you experiencing the slow connection!

In addition.. first try running a good Spyware/ adaware programme such as Spybot.. and alongside side another programme called... a-square.. and with AVG.. all of which are free... see links below..

http://www.safer-networking.org/en/download/index.html

http://free.grisoft.com/doc/2/

http://www.emsisoft.com/en/software/free/

Try this first.. they are all pretty good programmes when used in conjunction with each other, you;ll be surorised at what you find.... Get back to me if this does not eliminate your problem

Regards Faggly
