Question about LaCie 500GB d2 Quadra 500 GB USB 2.0 Hard Drive
I have two LaCie Quqdra units (500 GB each). When connected thru two firewire cables to my firewire 400 PCI card and both switched, both units don't appear on Win XP. Turning on just one (no matter which) they work fine. Connecting one thru firewire and the other thru USB 2 is also OK. I have checked my firewire PCI card with two external drives from other manufacturer and both drives worked fine. Bur with one of then connected via firewire and the other being a Quadra unit, the problem reappears. It seems that the Quadra unit doesn't like to see another firewire unit sharing the firewire interface. Quite weird!! Best regards.
Windows XP and most pcs running it does not natively support firewire,as it was developed by Apple computers. Most Firewire ports on PCs are 4 pin. Your PCI card ( and I take it, its a desktop youre referring to ) should have a 6 pin connection. Firewire connections also have a 7 watt supply via the bus. You may need to open the computer and see if the molex jack on the card is being powered by your computers power supply. Two firewire drives, especially the power hungry Lacie quadras, may be to much consumption for the card. Hope this helps.
