Wbtcht,

remove and clean the brush bearings. Run the Roomba without the dustbin, and see if the brush turns while the unit is on. If not, it's time to call support.

Roller not turning when vaccuming

just had the same exact issue with mine - took everything apart - found that the swivel roller brush wasnt turning. it was not any belt issues or motor issues. took out brush roller - held in my hand by holding just the hand cap still - and tried turning the roller with my other hand. roller would not turn at all but is supposed to with no effort. on some models the end caps pop off but most are one piece and are just discarded and a new roller bought - seems to be $10-$20 for one for most dirt devils and under $10 shipping in north america. you can try something down the side of the roller and end cap like a razor - i did cut lose some crud and it works - but roller still stops on 2 of 4 settings on the rug because of this. i've already ordered a new one.

I ran the vacuum over throw rugs and the brush roller just stopped. I can't get the roller to work now... it won't even spin and the "brush" feature is in the ON position.

You've got a broken belt. Most Hoover Vacuums have a spare belt attached to the vacuum itself. Replacement is fairly easy and usually won't require tools. To replace your belt:
  1. Unplug the vacuum
  2. Locate clips on bottom of vacuum-Hoover uses clips that can be opened by hand.
  3. Lift up the plate that encloses the rollers
  4. Remove broken belt
  5. Remove roller from it's compartment
  6. Install replacement belt (hooking it around the motor and roller, using the roller for leverage to stretch out the belt until you have the roller in it's compartment.
  7. Replace cover
  8. Put clips back in place.

My bissell 6590 works fine with hose attachment. Motor shaft turns when belt and roller are off. When belt and roller are on it's noisy and smelly. Now one end of the roller actually melted in the holding...

replace the roller, belt and before instalation clean motor shaft where belt rolls. you can turn on the vacumm and using a knife scrape the motor shaft from the black dirt.

The belt for the maain vaccume broke off and now with the new belt the roller will not work.

It sounds like your roller brush itself might be bad. Try holding the roller brush holding just the end caps with your finger tips, and spinning the roller. Does the roller spin freely? If no, this indicates that your roller brush's bearings have melted together. This is a common problem for Bissell vacuums, as they use cheaper plastic bearing caps. The roller brush is not covered under the warranty either.

When this part goes bad, this causes the belt to break almost immediately. If you tried replacing the belt, and it broke immediately, your roller brush has gone bad.

The Dyson roller ball vacuum I have is making me crazy because the roller bar wont turn. What gives?

Check that you dont have anything blocked in the roller, if all is clear there is a little red button on the side off the roller. Push this in and this will reset the roller... If that doesnt work, check that it is switched on with the switch next to the power button.. That should solve your problems

Fantom twister wont work light is on

When you say, "just stopped", did the MOTOR stop operating and there's no sound from it at all? Or, is the motor still working or sounds like it does, and it stopped vacumning?

If the MOTOR stopped, most likely there is a short somewhere in the connection at the motor. Think 'repair shop'.
If the motor still runs and there's no VACUMN ACTION, think Roller Brush which operates by virtue of a rubber belt. Turn the machine on its side and turn it ON, keeping FINGERS !AWAY! from the roller area. If the Roller Brush is not moving it may be that the belt has slipped off or is broken or simply too loose to turn the Roller. Also sometimes debris such as strings, long hair, carpet strands/fibers will become wrapped around the roller especially next to the roller bearing/brace points, to the point of binding so tightly that the roller will no longer be able to actually roll which would now prevent it from 'Vacumning' or sweeping dirt and such up into the vortex of the vacumn chamber. In which case, !!UNPLUG!! the machine, use small scissors to cut away the material wrapped around the roller paying particular attention to the brace point areas.
