When you plug in the camera does vista show that new hardware is found and if any lights are on the device do they come on?. Can you see any image of a PC card on the status bar near the time , if you do then double click it and it will open the hardware wizard that is looking for the drivers and if you have internet connected to then it should find the drivers automatically. Were you using this cam with Vista before or Windows XP ? Try installing the driver that is on the CD that came with the camera or download from his location
Install this driver from here http://drivers.softpedia.com/get/SCANNER-Digital-CAMERA-WEBCAM/OTHER-SCANNERS/Vimicro-ZC0301Plus-PC-Camera-Driver-070404.shtml OR look for zc0301plus chip-set driver. It work 100% only for A4Tech Pk-35N web-cam.Or open gently the camera cover and read the chip-set id then goggle it (for all other web-cam).It works for me every time.
This is a very old device. It was manufactured during the Windows 98SE OS era. They supported this device with driver all the way through Windows XP. There is no further support for this unit. If you cannot get Windows 7 to recognize the device using the Compatibility Mode for the most recent (Win XP) driver, then you are pretty much out of luck and need to upgrade.
It won't work in a room with no light at all. But if you have even a light from your monitor it will work better than most of the webcams. If you need a webcam for complete darkness you may have a look at Security Cameras
