Dell inspiron1501 touch pad sensitivity problem

When i bought my dell inspiron 1501, I set the touch pad up so it only clicked when using the buttons not the actual pad, today with no warning, the pad had again enabled itself so i find myself clicking on stuff accidently
when moving the pointer, and i have just noticed the task bar's touchpad icon is no longer there? and come to think of it, i dont remember seeing it for some time.. what is causing the first problem and how do i get the icon back so i can change the settings back?

You are going to have to go into the control panel and to the mouse properties. in there you will be able to put the icon back in the taskbar. i dont know why it changed itself though. on my dell a couple times i had to reinstall the mouse drivers for some reason. i just went to dell.com and got them there. hope this helps

Can't right or left click on inspirion 1501, touchpad is fine.

It would appear that the left/right touch pad buttons have failed. You will have 3 options at this point in time.
1) Use an external wireless mouse such as a Logitech Wireless Mouse M505 for roughly $39.99
2) Use alternative features on the laptop. Left click is typically simulated by tapping or double tapping the touch pad itself and right click can be simulated, in most cases, by single tapping the icon and pressing the pop-up menu button, typically located between the right alt and ctrl buttons.
3) Search for a replacement component online and replace the component. Touch pad replacement will require you to remove all casing screws from the laptop and then remove the case. You will then expose the screws and cabling for the touch pad. I can not give more detailed instructions as this varies per laptop model.

I have to hit touch pad 3-4 times to work when doing anything Dell Inspiron 1501

Make sure you have the latest touchpad driver from support.dell.com, then in the touchpad settings (Control panel, Mouse, touchpad tab) adjust the sensitivity.
If adjusting the sensitivity has no effect then it may just be wearing out, which would mean a palmrest replacement. Those are around $20

I want to disable my mouse pad on my inspiron1501

You should find a check box if you go to your Control Panel --> Mouse applet, under the touchpad settings. There should be a checkbox to disable the touch pad.

If not...check your system tray for a DELL touchpad utility or mouse utility running and look for the setting in there.

the problem that you are having is that you need a touch pad driver to communicate right. you can find that on your dell website. search the model that is on your dell laptop.
