For dells, it is typically F2, of course, make sure you press it on the loading screen (black screen) before Windows comes up. If you don't see it or if its too fast, I normally just keep hitting it until the Bios shows up.

I had this problem. Puzzled the hell out of me. Reading the posts above led me to believe it might be a problem with the USB keyboard. I changed the keyboard to a different USB port, and Bingo, I was in there!

If F2 won't get you in, hold your hand on a bunch of keys as soon as you power it on. Eventually it will tell you that you have a problem with your keyboard and you can press F1 to continue or F2 to enter setup. I have also had problems with these computers competently recognizing the USB keyboard you are using. I highly recommend visiting the Dell web site and downloading and installing the newest bios firmware.

Hi there.

  • Boot the system. Press F2 to enter the BIOS setup.
  • Press ALT-F
  • Press ALT-B
  • Computer will restart and display a message indicating it is re-detecting IDE drives. After a minute or so, Windows will start. Test the device that wasn't working before.
  • If you want to restore other BIOS settings you have set, such as the boot sequence, you will have to restart the computer and enter BIOS setup again.
If this does not work try another usb keyboard in the same port.

Good luck and thanks for using FixYa!!

Your bios seems corrupted. You will probably need to reflash from a thumb drive which is bootable. The F2 should get you to booting screen to access the thumb drive to boot from to flash the bios.
