Question about Briggs & Stratton Garden

Open Question

Snapper starts with starter fluid

I'm trying to help a friend, have not seen the mower.

He says that it must be started with starter fluid, after that it runs. model .28b702 ,type 1154-e1, code 010911210 . He does not have a manual. Does it have an up draft carb or down draft.

SOURCE: I have an 80's model 10HP rear engine Snapper

Sounds like you have problems inside your gear box, The easiest way to check this is to stand the mower up on it's backend and try to turn one wheel and hold the other. You should be able to do this if you get any bucking or the rear end locking up your problem is going to be in the gearbox. FYI make sure you lock your clutch pedal down so the drive disk does not contact the friction disc

Brand new snapper mower will not start, will start if I spray starter fluid in it?

Replace that odd factory spark plug
with the old J19LM used on the 187cc
& gap at .030

Not .020 as with the useless new plug, that
even the dealers never heard of, or have an
answer for,no factory support

The new plug works barely, for about six cuttings,
then won't start as you found out

Snapper 16 horse won't crank

I believe the red light just shows that your ignition switch is on, your problem is voltage going to the starter which is the next step. Your switch is not doing the normal ON/START as it should . If you test that voltage is going through to the starter then your starter will need service.GOOD LUCK FRIEND.

I have a snapper sr928 riding mower it will crank but not start up and the neg battery cable will get hot and smoke

Check battery cable connections to make sure they are all tight. It may be getting hot from trying to start for to long. Also try starting with starting fluid. If it starts with starting fluid you probably need some work done to carburetor.

Snapper Hi-Vac riding mower that won't start with starter

You may need a 300cca battery, an ignition switch or a solenoid to get things going again. I also would check to make sure the starter gear has not locked in the flywheel teeth; it will burn up the starter. You should be able to go to the snapper website and put your model of mower in and find the parts and diagrams you need.
Good Day.

Snapper sr 1028 wont start with new battery

Make sure your battery is at proper volts. If it is then check the starter with a volt meter and make sure that it is getting or not getting power. It does sound like a Starter problem. But I have seen it happen on some models where someone buys a bigger battery and in return short out the stater.
