Damaged door on microwave

My daugther cooked popcorn in a metal bowl in the microwave. There is noticable damage to the inside of the door. More specifically the inside of the door has burn mark and small section (maybe 1/8'') is actually burned out. The exterior of the door does not show any signs of damage. The microwave does appear to work properly, but I am concerned that there maybe some leakage of micrwave energy if I us it.

The glass if you look at it has a screen sandwiched inbetween glass that dicapates the energy from exiting through glass. If it is burned to that depth then concern would be a priority. The screen should still work as normaly would, but if it is bare to the interior then it might get heated when unit is operating.Replacing glass is not to bad to do,the inner side has plastic insert that snaps in and can be removed by prying it out < using small flat tool such as slim puddy knife and then ther may be a few retainers for glass> it snaps in from outer edge.

Buy a detector to test your microwave to be sure it is not leaking radiation. The detectors range in price from ten dollars to about thirty five dollars and can be purchased in most hardware stores. If you discover that the microwave is leaking radiation, never try to repair this appliance yourself. Take the microwave to a professional for repair. All things considered though, the microwave oven is fairly inexpensive these days it may be a better idea to just purchase a new one.

Arcing sharp carosel microwave when i put orville redenbacher mini popcorn bags in i found oil on outside of bag

Arcing will occur if you have any metal inside the microwave, or if the powder paint on the inside has been damaged. If the paint is damaged dispose of the microwave

Arcing and flashing during cooking cycle

Arcing and flashing either has to do with having metal parts inside that are not chromed perfectly (better yet only put metal in if it's a microwave convection oven on convection setting only), or some of the powder coating on the inside of the cabinet is damaged. Or a twist tie etc was inside during use. If the cabinet is damaged dispose of unit.

It should fine provided the magnetron does not start arcing, anything metal inside will cause issues if exposed.

unplug microwave.
Take ALL dishes out of the microwave and do a proper check of the inside the cooking area. If you are sure that's ok put the glass dish back in if it has one.

Test that the oven and grill are still functional.?

Do they heat up? If they do then get one of those microwaveable bowls or dishes and put some water into it. Place it back into the microwave and do the check again on microwave heating.

Does it bang or spark again?
If it does and the other heating is OK then the Magnatron to me sounds as it's on it's last legs.
That does not mean you have to scrap the microwave if it is the Magnatron. as a new one can be purchased and installed.

While cooking in our Whirlpool GH5184 microwave an arcing appeared near the L/H lower corner of the unit. After shutting it off we observed a black arc mark on the inside of the door and a small hole from...

This is caused by either carbon arcing from carbonated food deposits or metal dish or bowl being used inside the machine causing a track. Even a recycled paper towel can cause it as the towels have metal traces in them.

No homegrown popcorn in a microwave? why?

Popcorn is a food that has a very low moisture content, and microwave ovens rely on moisture content (water molecules) in order to cook.

If there is not enough moisture to absorb the microwave energy, much of the the energy is reflected back to the magnetron and damage it.

This is also what damages a microwave when it is run empty.

A simple solution is to add about 1/2 to 1 cup of water in a microwave-safe container in the back corner of the oven and cook your popcorn a little longer.

You'll have to experiment a few times to get the combination right for your particular model.

But allow our microwave about 15 minutes or so for the magnetron to cool down between popcorn cooking sessions.

Also, I would suggest putting a paper plate upside-down on the turntable tray, then putting the popcorn container on top of that.

This does two things: It keeps the extremely hot popcorn off the tray, reducing the chances it will crack, plus it raises the popcorn up so it will heat more efficiently.

Viking microwave oven

If you mean that the automatic popcorn cooking is not working properly, it's probably a bad humidity sensor.

If it's still under the one year warranty, they'll replace it free. Otherwise, they can steer you to a Viking-authorizes servicer.

You can contact Viking customer service here.

The cover is probably the magenetron. That is where the microwaves come from. If the bread was moist, it might have left condensate in the unit which is causing the sparking. Unplug the unit, leave the door open over night. If you can remove that cover, do so. Be sure to carefully replace it before using the unit. Never turn on a microwave with nothing in it.
