The large burner sits on a cradle in the center of the tank, the piliot light connects to the burner assembly make sure the opening is facing the right way toward the burner, the thermocoupling should slide through the hole and sleve for it and should be pushed all the way till you feel it click, put it in vary carefully, sitting the asembly on it's perch, then line up the door and slowly push it all in at one time, making sure that the burener is level and is directly on it cradle, the door will line up pu the nuts on the screws pull it in evenly so there is no gap on either side, if there is any air gap it will not light, nor will it stay lit, do not touch the thermocoupling the oils from your hand will get on it and give it a false reading and will not light

Find your only getting Luke warm water @ your faucets??

This is a common fault with new to used installed waterheater.

It is call a diptube ,made of pvc in part description. It is located on cold inlet, top of waterheater.

Malfunction of dip tube is usually a fracture caused by age mostly,or faulty install when new and tube was exposed to high heat from welding .

This tube allows the cold water supply to flow into W/heater and exit at bottom where it is heated while pushing already heated water to hot side and to your faucet. If this tube is defective ei...cracked the cold will [leak] mix with the hot before reaching bottom to be heat..thus lukewarm water syndrome. Solution $8 part H/depot>remove coldside copper fittings and pull white pvc out, about 4feet long, less rotted area, install new 3/4 inch pvc dip tube with flange up.

My smart water pilot is on but it is not heating the water tank

GE is Rheem.
Models change frequently.
Copy following link for troubleshoot resources by type of gas control valve.

Newer water heaters require frequent air intake cleaning.
To do this with Rheem requires removal of combustion parts, and then air compressor to blow out screen.
It is probably time to have a plumber give water heater a catch-up on recommended maintained, such as checking gas pressure, bleeding gas line, checking vent draft, clean combustion parts, clean air intake, check if gas control is working correctly.

I have a 3 year old ge smartwater gas water heater. in our ontario winters, the gravity vented unit spills exhaust into the basement because the pipe and chimney get too cold after the heater is off for...

Id try raising the chimney until you can get the smoke from a piece of paper to get sucked up under the draft hood. I believe theres a different problem then a cold pipe.raising the chim.might not be the answer.

I have a GG40T06/487-246 GE SmartWater Water Heater, it is about 10 years old and now there is leak on the position of the stem of the reset button connecting to the gas valve. Any suggestions to replace...

A 10 year old water heater is at the end of its life expectancy. No sense replacing a gas valve to have the tank rust out next month. I'ld replace the whole unit. Also, install a drip pan, under it and a WAGS safety device. Any water in the pan and the WAGS will shut off he Water and Gas. If your water heater has an expansion tank near by, replace that too.

GG40T06AVG01 my GE Hot Water Heater is only 4 years old and has lost the pilot light twice over the last 10 days. What is happening to casue this problem?

Problem can also be lack of air to the combustion area. Vacuum the area towards the bottom of the tank where the vent holes are. Also, I had a resident that had fans blowing out of her apartment windows this summer. We had the same problem with the pilot light and even replaced the thermocouple. Problem continued and even had CO in the home when the tank was firing. She was creating a back draft and pulling the exhaust gases into the apartment from the hotwater tank. It took time to figure it out.

I have a 2003 pace arrow motorhome. i can not get any hot water presure. the tank is full and hot. no water flows.

Check by-pass valves at back of tank for wrong positioning. Cold goes in bottom, hot out top and both should be open, and any valves in between should be closed.

The water heater seems to not be heating. The bottom part of the tank is cold and the top is warm. I did reset the breaker this morning. Do I replace the bottom element?

Yes that may be the problem. To know for sure you need an electrical test meter to see if the top thermostat is sending the power down to the bottom element after the top one is satisfied.
If you have power at the bottom element and there is no power draw then you have a bad element. Drain the tank and replace it. Make sure to completely purge the air from the tank before turning thepower back on.

Restricted air inlet

Clear the area around the bottom of waterheater so as to allow air flow around mesh area built into base of water heater and or open unvented door passages involving waterheater. This mostly a safty issue which seldom occurs if not remedy quickly.

Please rate. Thanks JJ505

Hot Water inconsistent

Something you can do, following your fathers logic,   is to attach a hose to the drain of the tank and run water from the bottom of the tank into a drain untill all the sediment is removed (Water runs clean). This is normally done once a year as preventive maintenance  on all tank type water heaters. The logic sounds good to me.
