The vertical is collapsed. This area helps to keep "expand" the screen as we see it. The area has many posibilities to loose the solder joins (crack solder) because the natural heat the area expeles just because the work done.*** if the tv is kept turn on with this line can draw a permanent line (even after the repair) in the screen if the problem is not solve imm. a lot of voltage is concentrated in a small area.

. Take to the shop to fix before some permanent damage and the repair could be expensive.

The vertical output integrated circuit needs to be resoldered to the circuit board. It's common for these connections to develop cracks over time. When you smack the set it's causing the connections to make contact again for a while. There may also be capacitors in the vertical circuit which need to be replaced as well. They age and change in value.

About 2 inches of the top of my screen won't show. Sometimes it will turn into a line that runs through the center horizontally. If I hit it it will go back to normal except still missing the top 2 inches

hit your TV lightly on left side or right side or on top & then observe ..........you will get normal picture or it comes & again it goes....if it is happening like that then following is the situation..........after 4 or 5 yrs in some TVs on main board at some soldering joints crack develops....then due to loose contact picture becomes small in size or disappears ...........when we hit that lightly then those loose contacts joins temporarly & again picture appears for some time............so solution is ......TV main board should be observed carefully & most of the joints should be re-soldered.......only a good service engineer can do that........even after hitting TV lightly if there is no response then main board has to be checked completely........in your case iam sure it is loose connection problem.........joints should be re - soldered ...100% it works again (2inch on top will also gets solved )................this problem cannot be solved by user unless user has idea about components( resisitors, transisitors, diodes,...etc) , have soldering iron , multimeter & other tools....................so contact good TV service engineer

Our LN40A630 has three horizontal white lines across the screen on power up (center, center of upper half , and center of lower half). After about five minutes the lines go away. Tried Picture Test in...

This is a sign of your LCD panel beginning to die. Sometime soon those lines won't fade away and will become permanent parts of your TV screen.

Considering the fact that your TV is approx 3-4 years old, this is normally the expected lifespan of a TV. Once the TV becomes unwatchable, your best bet would be to begin shopping for a new one.

Horizontal line through the middle with sound. If you hit the side of the TV the picture will come back and then go away again. The TV is about 10 years old. Every now and then the picture will flash...

sounds like an intermittent problem. it could be a cold solder and it needs to be resolder it at the VERTICAL IC or transistor section , if your good with tools , you can do it yourself , otherwise take TV to a nearest repair shop, hope this helps , AJ

TV: bright line across black screen for several hours.

vertical output ic needs to be resoldered. careful leaving that bright line displayed on the screen as this will cause a permanent phosphor burn into the tube. this can not be corrected once burned unless you replace the tube. mch

Mitsubishi VS70707 Has developed subtle lines in picture

If they are faint white lines, they are called re-trace lines. They are caused when the current to the CRTs is too high. One way to check is to turn the brightness down. They should go away, but if the picture is too dark, you will need to turn down the "screen" control. This will take some handy work. If you are handy enough, take the grill off the front. Inside you will see a little black box, about 5 inches wide. there are 6 knobs on it, 2 for each color. One row is for focus (each) the other for screen (brightness). It is written on the part. The trick is to turn each of them down equally or risk having a slight tint of color. Really not hard at all, but requires the TV to be on to see. You shouldn't need to turn it but a fraction. Good luck.

25 inch sanyo tv

If the horizontal lines going through the picture are fine white lines, then I would suspect the picture tube as having a heater to cathode short or some other problem. Since some sets have had a 3 year warranty on the picture tube, you may be lucky unless the labor to replace the tube is more than the set is worth. Sanyo is usually not a good name in consumer electronics anymore, so if you're looking for a replacement I would look elsewhere.

It sounds like a vertical deflection problem. You mentioned you had a white HORIZONTAL LINE in the middle of the screen. If this line runs from left to right across the screen it's in Verticla deflection. If it runs from top to bottom, it's in Horizontal deflection. I am assuming the problem is a Vertical deflaecion problem. The repairs necessary are most likley to replace the vertical capacitors or the verticla deflection chip.
Good Luck

Horizontal Lines

The unit most likely has a short in the horizontal section and would require repair by a service center. Go here to find a JVC repair center in your area http://maps.jvc.com/cAscList/
