Question about Toshiba Satellite A60 Notebook

1 Answer

Toshiba Satellite P300 Laptop will not boot up? Running Windows Home Premium 64bit. Have made Recovery discs. I can access the bios and all looks good. HDD is recognized. I took the drive out and put into an enclosure, hook to my other computer and all files are there. I assume there is a root boot problem? Ironic twist, This happened when trying to install some software that was giving me grief (some VHS to DVD stuff to get my capture device to work with my camcorder (it was working on Justin TV?)) I had tried installing this software on my desktop with it not working properly. I tried to install it on the said laptop when it crashed. When I was going to check the laptop HD on the desktop, the desktop would not boot? At least it gave me options to repair the boot files, after installing the windows disk it repaired and works good. The laptop will not give me a repair option? I can get into boot options but only have a choice of HD or DVD and LAN. Tried the recovery discs with no avail? Put my other computers Windows disk in to see if it would at least boot, Not? Seems nothing will let me past bios? I can get all my personal data so no biggie, but I still need to get this laptop seeing something? Can I repair the boot registry from my desktop? Or should I just save my data and do a reformat with a Disk recovery boot? (I doubt the later will work given my issues?)

Before you try reformat etc.
Press F8 key as you boot up then select Last Known Good Configuration, if that doesn't work then try Safe Mode. Once you get into Windows go to Restore and select the Restore Point date prior to the installation of that software. Hopefully this will get your laptop back to where it was prior to the installation of capture sofware.

Looks like your only option is to use your recovery disk and format your drive and re-install Windows.

If the recovery disk doesn't work, use a Windows install disk, make sure it is for the version of Windows (XP or Vista) that is printed on the Windows label that is attached to the base of your computer also use that Product Code number in the installation process.

Please help my Tosiba L300 is asking for a BIOS password , i cannot access it and my recovey disc will not work

All you need to do to access the BIOS is to reset it. To reset the BIOS you would need to remove the CMOS battery and place it back, the BIOS password will be back to default and you able to access the BIOS.

NOTE: the CMOS battery is located at the back of your laptop, or it will be much better for you to call a local technician and have him do it for you.

For you to use the recovery disc, once you boot the computer press F12 then select to boot your computer to (CD\DVD drive) make sure that the disc is in the disc tray, then press enter. Your computer will automatically boot into you recovery disc.

Cheers

I wiped clean my toshiba satellite pro p300 and tried to load operating system ,screen say's press enter to continue loading, when i press enter screen shows cannot find hard drive etc etc can anyone...

If you insert your Vista or Win7 disc into the DVD drive and boot form that, make sure that the BIOS is set to recognise the hard disc. The OS disc will do the rest. If it cannot find the hard disc, maybe the hard disc is faulty.
When you are successful, go to toshiba.com and download the latest drivers and firmware for the BIOS.
Hope that helps.

How do i restore my toshiba p300-172 back to

a couple of ways to do that 1) if you have the recovery CDs supplied with the PC - then you can use these - put the CD into the drive and when it boots follow the instructions 2) If you have a recovery partition on the laptop - have a read here to see if you have one http://www.csd.toshiba.com/cgi-bin/tais/support/jsp/outFrm.jsp?ofId=AskIris&searchString=recovery+to+factory 3) This link shows you how to use the partition http://www.csd.toshiba.com/cgi-bin/tais/support/jsp/bulletinDetail.jsp?soid=2291088&pf=true basically as the PC boots TAP F8 key - from the menu that appears choose "repair your computer"

To reformat toshiba p300-1cn without recovery discs??

If you do not have a recovery partition, you will need to have some sort of bootable disc with an operating system on it. The reasoning behind this is that your computer cannot format a hard-drive it is currently running off of unless the hard-drive is partitioned and your OS is running on a partition that is not being formatted. I would recommend either getting windows recovery disks, or a copy of Ubuntu or such free Linux distributions for this action. After your Laptop is formatted it will have no Operating system and will not work until one is installed on it.

Recovery console key convination for a laptop?

Hi there.
Restart the PC and hit F2 while it boots up, this will take you into the bios, look for boot devices and set the CD to the first boot device, save the changes and exit the bios. The compuer will restart and boot from the CD drive.
Once the OS has installed go back into the bios and set the HDD (hard drive) to first boot device.

Good luck and thanks for using FixYa!!

Please help me to remove bios password on a laptop toshiba satellite A215-SP5811. my e-mail is asalazar@ssaver.gob.mx

There are a lot of Windows password revealers and crackers available, but I’ve found that Windows Password Recovery Tool is the most effective.:
it not only supports XP, 2000, and NT, I have personally tested it with Vista Home Premium and Ultimate. It works perfectly to reset any local user account to a blank password
You can use the ISO to burn a boot CD. Follow these instructions:
1. Download ISO file from http://www.windowspasswordsrecovery.com Windows Password Recovery Tool
2. Burn to a CD using a CD burning tool such as Nero or Roxio or MagicISO
3. Insert CD into drive and reboot.
4. You may have to select an option in the BIOS to get the computer to boot from the CD.
Booting up and clearing a password takes a minute or two works like a charm.
