Question about Linksys BEFSX41 Router (DHBEFSX41)

1 Answer

Router/playstation 3 okay...I have connected the modem to the router, computer works, but when we connect the Playstation 3 to the router, it will not connect to the internet. I am not sure if this is a router issue or a Playstation issue. Any help with this will be appreciated.

I reckon that you may need to configure your router to open ports to allow the internet traffic access. If you go to this link it will help you to configure the necessay "Port Forwarding" settings. http://portforward.com/english/routers/port_triggering/Linksys/BEFSX41/BEFSX41index.htm Are you connecting with a wired or wireless setup? Hope this helps - let me know if it does not

I've changed my modem, I have a 100% connection with my PS3 to the router, IP address and Internet Connection is successful. Playstation Network = FAILED ... how can I fix this???

you can try doing a factory reset on your modem/router also try to hard wire it and see if that gets the PSN to pass, you might even have to set your PS3 up as a DMZ host in your modem/router configuration this will put your PS3 outside the Firewall which can sometimes fix the problem. You can also ty this:

On your router settings, open TCP port 80, port 443, port 5223 and UDP port 3478, port 3479, port 3658.
Disable the media server connection option found under the Network Settings menu option on the Playstation 3.

I need to connect my play station 3 to the internet wirelessly

Your RCA DCM425 modem is just that, a modem. you need to buy and plug a wireless router into it. That will broadcast your internet connection for your playstation to find.

Cant get online when i run a test it fails on playstation net work then afterwards says you have been disconnected from media server

Hi,
If you are using a router, the problem probably has to do with the router. In order to find out, disconnect your PS3 from the router and plug it directly into you modem. If your modem is not near your playstation 3 then move it close to the PS3. The modem plugs directly into your cable line so there is a good chance that the television you play your PS3 on has a cable connection. One you have connected your PS3 to your modem, press the reset button on the modem. Turn your PS3 on and go directly to your network settings. Click on Internet Connection Test (do not bother trying to set up a connection manually) If you are getting a connection then you are ready to go.

Thank you!

Connecting router to PC and Playstaion 3

If you connect the computer directly to the modem, does it work?
If that works then the modem is working.
Now connect the computer to the router and the modem to the router.
You will need to open the set up page of the router to check the settings of the router.
You can set up the router without the CD also.
It is very easy.

You need to first plug the DSL modem into the router. log on to the router. Configure the router byusing the user name and password as supplied by your dsl provider. once the router connects to your dsl provider, you should be able to connect your playstation to the wireless network.

Okay,i manually setup an internet connection on my PSP but for some reason when i try to get on the internet with it it says:Communication with the server failed. A DNS error has occured (8041040F). I dont...

From what I understand you are trying to get online with your playstation and to do so you want to share the internet connection with your computer but two things you mention make me believe the problem might be one of these two solutions.

First in order to start an online gaming session, at least on Xbox live, you need your own DNS which is a Domain Name Service and unique address associated with your gaming device. Since your computer already is using that unique address which you put in manually it comes back as an error. You don’t mention if you have a router or not but I will assume you do, if this is the case you need to set up your playstation to have the network setup complete automatically which will enable your router to supply the playstation with another address which will be unique to it thus no error when trying to connect to a gaming session. If this fails on the automatic setting you will need to reboot the modem that connects your computer to the internet and then reboot your router with both the computer and the Playstation connected to your router at the same time, the modem will then supply the router with a new DNS and then the router will supply both the computer and the Playstation with a new DNS and its own unique address. Once the router has rebooted get online with your computer to check to see if your router completed its tasks. I f you can get online with your computer then now go back into the Playstation setup and make sure all of the network parameters are set for automatic such as DNS, no proxy, ect.. This should get you online unless you also have a firewall problem.

If you do not have a router, only a modem from your internet company, then you will need to disconnect your computer from the modem, no sharing, connect your playstation directly to the modem, then reboot the modem. All network settings still need to be in the automatic mode in Playstation to work properly. If that still does not work that would suggest your IP gives you a static address and you will need to call them to get your network logon info and then with that info in hand set the playstation up manually with that info.

Try entering the WAP code or whatever security you have correctly. If it still refuses to work try plugging in your brain by sticking your index finger and middle finger in the socket.
