Question about Washing Machines

1 Answer

Washer I can't figure out how to take a panel off the washer to try to repair it. I think the belt needs to be replaced. Sounds like the belt is slipping because of the noise it is making. It is a Frigidaire stacked washer/dryer. Model number FLXG8960EW1. I purchased it in 1999.

Re: washer

Pull washer away from wall and lay on it's back. panel will be accessable since belt is only accessible from the bottom because of the tensioner

I have a thin twin #LTE6234D that squeals when it starts. I need to know how to replace the belts that are slipping.

Which unit squeals when you start it, washer or dryer? Washer is direct drive and this noise would be from the pump area. Dryer could be Idler pulley or rear roller issue. If the belt is the issue, the front of the dryer would need to be removed in order to replace the belt, control panel needs to be removed first the disconnect the door switch. Remove the 5 screws to the front panel and replace the belt. But I would think its a idler or roller issue first over just a belt.
Good Luck

I have a Frigidaire GLTF1670A washer. When the washer goes into the spin cycle, I have noticed a progressively louder belt slipping sound. The washer is 7 years old. Do I need to replace the belt, or is...

Disconnect the washer from the electrical supply then remove the screws shown holding the rear access panel to the washer’s rear panel and lift the access panel off.

Cushion the bottom of the cabinet opening as shown to avoid hurting yourself with the sharp edge.

Plug the washer in then start a loaded spin cycle to check for belt slippage and the motor operation itself.

Replace the belt if loose or slipping. Remove the belt by turning the tub drive pulley and rolling the belt off the pulley.

Install the new belt in reverse order by wrapping it around the motor pulley and on one side of the tub drive pulley then turn the pulley to the other side in such a way that the belt wraps completely around the pulley. Secure the rear access panel back into position to complete the procedure.

Washer does not spin, has a burning smell. took off front panel. motor pulley feels hot, so does belt. replaced belt 6/09. only wash one load per week. where is the burning smell coming from?

This sounds like a frigidaire washer. If it is, the belt must be the original equipment manufacturers belt. ANY other belt will just slip and burn. The fact that the pulley and the belt were both hot tells me that either the belt is the issue or your main tub bearing is starting to seize.

I think a overloaded the washer and it wouldnt spin.

Frigidaire washer will not take a overloaded tub without causing belt problems.
Unplug the washer.
Remove the 2 screws on the very bottom of the front washer panel.
Slide the front panel down slightly and remove it from the cabinet.
Inspect the belt around the motor pulley and transmission.
If it is worn at all it needs replacing.
You could plug the washer back in and set it to Spin cycle and watch for the motor to turn and the belt slipping to verify a bad belt.
Keep your hands, fingers and tools away from all moving parts.

I am not a repair professional. I am just a 78 year old
man who has been making his own repairs for about
50 years. Therefore the washer ID doesn't mean
much to me. It's been about 55 years since I had
experience with front load washers. However I can
suggest you go to where
they have very good trouble shooting and repair
information on front loaders. I think you'll find what
you need there. Good luck with it.

My top load washer will not agitate or spin, but will fill and drain. The belt is fine and the agitator will move by moving the belt back and forth. What should I do next? Thanks

if you have aaccess to the belt already,
start the machine let it fill
then keeping an eye on the motor and the clutch underneath it, sounds like your clutch might be slipping..
you will notice immediately the motor will be spinnging but the clutch will not engage
ive included the part number
and phone number to call

runs about 120.00
but its a pretty easy repair especailly since you figured out how to open the cabinet

Changing the belt on my GE washer

Take a 3inch plastic putty knife and slip it appx 2 inches from each side between the front panel and the top assy. There are 2 spring clips in this area. If you take a flashlight and look between the panels you can see them. When you pop off the panel it will come forward and lifts off the bottom clips freely. Install it by just setting in the bottom panel and pushing on each top side of the front panel.
