Hurrah!Im using the 533mhz and its showing half the installed RAM.Problem solved one might think.But still...... Problem:Shopping for RAM (DDR2) most look something like this DDR2 PC2-6400 ? CL=6 ? Unbuffered ? NON-ECC ? DDR2-800 ? 1.8V ? 128Meg x 64 Is this chip 333 or 400 mhz??? Is it related to the PC2-xxxx??? HELP kevin

Hi there.

Just to help you clarify things.

http://www.dealtime.com/xPF-Elitegroup-ECS-P4M800-M7-SOCKET-775-ALL-IN-ONE-UATX-MOTHERBOARD

The above link is a complete spec of your motherboard. It shows that the memory that you can use is 333/400 184 pin DDR SDRAM.

The memory that you have listed above are DDR2, and therefore will not work with your motherboard.

What you should be looking for is DDR-400 and DDR PC3200.

If you need help with anything else, just let me know.

PC2-6400 is DDR 2 800 Mhz not good for you. 6400 is the tranfer rate of 6400 MB/sec.

Your computer probably supports PC2 2700 , PC2 3200, respectively 333 and 400 Mhz.

Hi there.
Yes it is related to PC2 and it runs at 800Mhz, this why your system is seeing only half the speed, your system does however support a module running at 333 module and a 400 module, this is the base limit that the memory runs at.
If the memory was 533 then the computer would not start up because the bios wouldn't recognize it.

Thanks for using FixYa!!

I'm finally found my system info can some tell me how much memory Im running on 512.00mb ? :(

you have a 512 mb card in the ram slot which gives you an effective ram of around 480 mb
it is random memory and is a storage space which the cpu uses to move data around while it does it's job
if you want to increase the ram then there should be a spare ram card slot next to the one you have so you can install another ram card of exactly the same value to double the ram memory
in some instances ( like game playing ) it can increase the speed of the computer

Laptops use a different type of RAM unlike a tower computer, the RAM is like little square pieces. Unscrew the cover, lift the old RAM out and replace with the new. Its located on the back or underside of the computer.

Well i have a compaq presario 1700 XL360 it came with pc100 64 memory ram i tried to upgraded with two 256 memory ram to bring it to total 512 mb thats the max for this computer ...

There is a good chance that your system needs a firmware upgrade in order to recognize the bigger memory. I found one in this page

Be carefull and follow the instructions since you could brick your system.

If that does not work, do not expend more money in that system (very old), just save to get a new one.

P.S. The memory you got is the right kind.

Good luck

Virtual memory needing more space

hello
yes all info you can share is good. do you have several partitions on the disk? in that case you can move the swap file to a other partition or hard drive. how big are you c: ? you have to little space at your harddrive as you said. you can change your virtual memory here right click my computer >properties>advanced tab-> settings on Performance> advanced and click change. change to a other partition or set the size smaller on C. But be careful! the size of the page file should be atleast equal to you amount of ram.

DDR & SDRAM supported?

I suggest you stay within your manual specs.
Your boards memory should not use voltage higher than CL2.5
Below is a link for 1Gb dimm DDR266 PC2100. CL2.5
http://www.zipzoomfly.com/jsp/ProductDetail.jsp?ProductCode=80388-1
You can also buy two which would take you to the motherboards MAX memory of 2Gb.
