Question about Panasonic DMRES15 DVD Recorder

1 Answer

Local Comcast provider is switching to more digital programming

Will my Panasonic DMR-ES15 need a comcast digital receiver, or will it be able to receive the newer digital channels our local comcast provider will be transmitting? We currently record several programs from Fox and CBS on channels that will not be broadcast in digital (although they are also available on digital channels). We have a Sony 13FM13 13" tv hooked up to this DVD recorder - it's in our kitchen and we watch a lot of Fox and CNN news programs in the morning. We would rather purchase a new digital TV for our kitchen than give in to comcast! Thank you.

Here's what comcast announced:
We at Comcast are enhancing our network in your area to deliver more channels exclusively in digital format. This change will greatly improve your Comcast experience, but you may need new digital equipment to keep some of your favorite channels

Enjoy enhanced digital picture and sound on your favorite channels, like ESPN, CNN, Disney and more, plus access to over 10,000 On Demand titles and new channels, like Hallmark Channel, C-SPAN 3, G4, Sprout, Lifetime Movie Network (LMN) and more. With the World of More, you get these enhancements along with the superior service you've come to expect from Comcast

You will need the adapter and the good news is, the box is free, the downside to this is the panasonic recorder is going to need to only record on channel 3 or 4(there is a switch on the back of the comcast box) and the comcast box will need to be on the channel the program is on. I.E. Panasonic recording channel 3 or 4 from 10-11 am comcast box on channel 55 during that time.

My Onkyo DR90 DVD Remote Will Not Operate Components

Your Onkyo DR90 DVD Receiver remote control does not have universal remote functions, and cannot be (easily) programmed to control a Panasonic DMR ES15. Your DR90 remote does have a limited learning function, but it is designed to learn the codes from your TV's remote to control the TV. Only the following buttons are programmable by the TV Learning function:

I hope that helps.

Product DMR-EH50, UNABLE TO DOWNLOAD TV GUIDE ON SCREEN SYSTEM.

I think I may have the "answer".

I am in Atlanta and have a Panasonic DVR that was working fine and sometime during the past month or so we lost the channel listings. I've tried many resets as well with negative results.

I called Comcast tonight. The agent helping me took a long time to research the issue and gave me this answer (which sounds reasonable). By the way, this is for the Atlanta area and may not be applicable to other areas of the country.

Due to delays in the conversion to broadcast digital and the fact that Comcast is experiencing bandwidth issues, they have digitized the "channel listing" signal. By mid-June Comcast's signal will be all digital and you won't be able to watch a TV connected directly to Comcast cable - regardless of whether it has digital or analog tuner (or both). This is contrary to what I'd heard before.

After mid-June, you'll either need to use a cable box OR what she called a "Digital Transmitter Adapter" (let's call it a DTA). Prior to being converted to "full" digital, you'll get notification from Comcast. She said I'd be able to get 2 DTAs at no charge (I currently have one Comcast HD DVR box). Additional DTAs would be $1.99 a month. DTAs will only provide access to the "basic" cable channels, but the good news is that the Panasonic DVR should be able to obtain its channel lineup through this DTA box.

Good Luck!

Need codes for comcast remote to ilo tv

When programming your Comcast universal remote for your TV, the programming guide states that you should enter the 4-digit code provided for your equipment, and if you did it correctly, the TV button will blink twice.

What you have to do is put a "1" in front of your 4-digit code, making your code a 5-digit code. For instance, the code for my Panasonic is listed as 0250. I tried and tried. Then I entered 10250 and it worked perfectly the first time. I did it again to make sure I wasn't seeing things, and it worked.

Good luck.

DMR-E50 DVD recorder versus DMR-ES15 are these equivalent recorders

The DMR-ES15 is a later model (around 2006/07) than the DMR-E50 (2003/04), but essentially both should do the same job so technically - a good equivalent in terms of recording and same brand so yes. The connections on the rear (of the replacement recorder) should suit and work with your other devices just as the old one did.

According to some other online reviews, the DMR-E50 has had a few issues with recording, and finalizing certain discs.

I'd say go for it - accept the replacement - as long as it comes with some kind of guarantee, works fully and has all the accessories (including remote, instructions etc.) you should be good. Contact the store and seal the deal.

I hope you can get this in time for Christmas.
