Question about Microwave Ovens

Microwave stopped heating

My microwave stopped heating on all settings today. It made a crackling noise like tin foil or metal will cause but there was no meatal or tin foil present. It went through the time cycle like normal. the light was on, the fan was working but when the timer signaled ready, the food had not heated. I tried the popcorn cycle and when it had finished the cycle, it said error, I do not know if there is a fuse in the microwave because there is no mention of one or these problems in general in my manual troubleshooting guide.Help PLEASE.

Sparking could be caused by something metallic inside the microwave! Check in side for anything metal like foil!

Microwave sparks

If it sparks inside the oven then look inside for any powder paint missing... if so discard. If you has metal shelves or tin foil then don't put metal in when on microwave setting. Some of these metal shelves are for a microwave that is also a convection oven but only in the convection oven setting.

Will tin foil in the microwave ruin it completely? The microwave turned off after my son mircowaved a potato wrapped in tin foil.

You should always put a spoon in a cup of liquid that you heat in a microwave oven.
The microwave with a potato wrapped in tin foil is like operating the oven with nothing in it! If the microwave was spotlessly clean then your in trouble.
1 put a cup of cold water in the microwave and set for 5 minutes. if the water boils then your lucky if it cold then go and buy a new microwave and stop your childs allowance for a fortnight.
One might ask the question how old is your child and should they be using such a machine unsupervised!

Tin foil or steel plates in a microwave will burn it out. I suspect it is or has burnt out. Never put anything steel in a microwave.

Crackeling and popping then NOTHING!! No Power

Sorry to tell you that your microwave is done for. What they don't tell you when you purchase any over the range model is that sitting over the range, getting bombarded with steam and grease is not a good thing and it shortens the life span of the microwave.

Used tefle coated tin micro+convection oven

There are some times when it is ok to use metallic stuff in a microwave. This is probably one of them. But you won't get the manufacturer to agree. Metal concentrates the microwave energy making a strong enough local electric field to cause sparks and heat. Usually burns that spot. Do you have one of those popcorn cookers for microwaves? Works by heating a special pad in the bottom just right.
What the manufacturer is saying in the warning is:
Don't sue us if you use metal in this oven and something goes wrong.

I thought I had answered this, but maybe the reply didn't post... Vent cap? Could you be more specific about what you tried and what the noise is like - where it seems to be coming from? It looks like on some of these models, the high-voltage section emits some interference which some people are blocking with a foil or metal shield. If they do that, they should definitely insulate it to prevent shorts. Another cause of vibration on these models is a fault in the stirrer located above the cover on the ceiling inside the cooking cavity. Feel free to post back so we can help further.
