Question about Kenwood KDC-MP438U Car CD/ MP3 Player

1 Answer

Kenwood KDC-MP438U reciever installed. No sound in any mode.

I just finished installing a KDC-MP438U in my truck using a wiring harness, and I have confirmed all of my connections. The unit acts as if it is working fine, and it shows play times when reading from ipod or usb, but I am not getting any sound out of any of my speakers.

I got a Kenwood KDC-MP438U and its stuck on protected mode

Protected mode means that there is a speaker wire that is grounding out on the chassis, another wire or another wire. Check all the wire connections to make sure there is no loose wire that may be getting grounded out. After it's insulated properly and reconnected, hit the reset and you'll be back in business. k

I just bought a Kenwood KDC-MP438U I installed all the wires right, power is to the deck because it accepts a cd. the deck face doesn't light up. I called in at Kenwood and they had me test it directly to...

Check your Ground Wire inside the Truck and Check the Illumination Wire. I Think on Kenwood the Illumination Wire goes with the Power Wire. If they still will not work, You might want to get a Wiring Harness from Schoche.com Please Rate My Response! Thanks!

Kenwood KDC-MP438U acts as if there is no power to it,dead nothin

The speaker wires are very sensitive. You need to make sure that they are not grounding out. Once the unit senses this it will shut off. Pull the plug out of the back and start over.

Protect mode Kenwood KDC MP438U in dash reciever

Anytime there is a short circuit or your battery down low enough you will recieve this signal. If you press the little "reset button" using a small pin or screwdriver your unit should reboot without the "PROTECT" signal. If seeing this "PROTECT" sign is a result of jumping your car, this will fix it. If the signal persists, then there is still a short circuit and you need to check your connection with the battery. Most likely it is touching the chasis or some othere metal.

Security Code for Protect mode

Turn on the car so the radio is flashing "Protect." Look on the front / removable face of the stereo. On it you will find a small round hole - that's a reset button. Find a small paper clip, unfold the clip and stick it gently into the hole. The "Protect" will stop flashing, and Kenwood will be displayed. Unfortunately all your settings/presets will be gone, but at least the stereo is working again!

Problem no sound

If your KENWOOD unit is experiencing audio problems (NO Audio), but do have audio when TUNER is selected as the source, you may have problems with your installation.

NOTE: If using an external amplifier or the unit was installed using a separately purchased wiring harness for your specific vehicle, please check the following

If Using an External Amplifier

The P.CONT or REMOTE terminal on the external amplifier requires a “turn on” signal from the stereo. This terminal should be connected to the BLUE/WHITE P.CONT wire on the Kenwood harness and not the solid BLUE ANT.CONT wire.

If Using a Vehicle Specific Harness
The vehicle has a factory installed amplifier and requires a “turn on” signal from the stereo. Make sure that the BLUE/WHITE P.CONT wire is connected to the vehicle specific harness and NOT the sold BLUE ANT.CONT wire.

The solid BLUE ANT. CONT wire is used to trigger a power antenna ONLY when the tuner is selected as the source. Using this wire to “turn on” an external amplifier or factory installed amplifier will only allow it to work when TUNER is selected. Please refer to your instruction manual for proper installation. If you are not completely comfortable with installing the unit yourself, we recommend that you seek assistance from a professional installer.
