Question about Sony PlayStation 2 (PS2) Console
Hi Randomsk8tr, If your not Electrnically challenged you can clean the system yourself. Remove the power cord first. Carefully open the system by removing the screw covers and screws on the bottomof your PS2. You will need to cut warranty seal at the seams of the case. Lift the top cover of the case from the back slightly and stright up after the case clears the Buttons on the front and lay it to your Right upside down without messing up any cables. Using a #00 philips Screwdriver, open the cover of the Laser disc drive. Using rubbing alcohol , dip one end of a Q-tip into the alcohol, then dry it a little bit. Swab the lens of the laser, then use the dry end of the Q-tip to dry the lens. REmove any hair or lent from the disc player. Then reassemble and try it out. If you want a qualified service to get your PS2 running check me out at www.playstationclinic.com. It likely needs a cleaning. A PROFESSIONAL cleaning, not a lens disc.... There isa a slim chance ther laser is dead, but it's more likely just the cleaning. Rates vary, but my shop charges about $56 for PS2 cleanings (we actually clean inside the optical assembly and mechanisms and reallign eveything back to spec).
