Question about E-Machines T2984 PC Desktop

1 Answer

E-machine T2984 will not start

I have an E-Machine T2984, everything was working fine until I went to upgrade my RAM from 512MB to 1 GB. I went to start my machine up again after putting the new RAM in, and now my computer will not start. the keyboard lights blink like they do with normal start up then nothing, same with my monitor it looks like it's going to work but it gives the the error message of "no signal input". I have tried everything I can think of, please help I'm ready to shoot this machine!

I replaced the 512 with the 1GB (both PC2700), error occurred so i tried putting my 512 back in the same error occurred. I have even tried having both plugged in at once, and all variations. I made sure that they are compatible and that it was installed correctly. I have checked that my slot and they are fine. i have cleaned everything, removed all extra video sound cards gone back to the original components that this computer came with, even unplugged CD / DVD drives and all but master hard drive. now when i go through and mess with the RAM if i have only one RAM (does not matter if it is the 512 or 1GB and does not matter which slot) plugged in i get three beeps which is the error of "First 64 K memory failure". when i have both plugged in the error goes away, and the red light on the motherboard turns off. It is not any of my cards or RAM or hard drives because i have checked all components in other computers.

Thank you for all of your help so far, but nothing is working. I have checked for loose connections, none found, i have tried switching the pin to reset the BIOS and nothing changed. I have pulled the battery, plugged and unplugged everything and I am stuck with the same "no signal input".
I get the three beeps still, now when i turn my system on there is the green light by the power supply on steady showing the board is getting power, the red light that was appearing at the bottom of the board now blinks on then stays off. i let my system run for a minute to see what would happen and no errors but instead it turns itself off. nothing i do seems to make a difference, i have even tried booting from CD. In doing more research i have read that the E-Machines T2984 (with Intel E210882 MB) is known to ground out against the case and/or have random MB and power supply failures. is this true? and could it be that my MB just randomly died when i plugged in new RAM?

okay latest update, i was able to use a friends computer so i could check out all of my parts. RAM is fine, MB is fine, HD's are fine, and power supply is fine. but they will not work all together. so i have no clue and am looking at buying a new MB, and power supply, just to avoid any future problems. does anyone have any suggestions or recommendations? and that you all again for your help.

Before you spend any money, try this:

1 Disconnect everything from the motherboard except the CPU and the power connections
2 Remove the motherboard from the case and put it on a piece of cardboard
    3 Power up the system

You should get a series of beeps as the POST looks for memory.
If that happens, power it down, install the memory and try it again.

It may be that the MB is shorted to the case. It's rare, but I have seen it. Keep adding components, video next so you can try getting into the BIOS. If it works, check the inside of the case to see if you can see where it had been shorting.

Let me know how it goes. ~ Spoem

make sure you did not loosen and cables in the unit when you were changing the ram sticks,,sounds like a loose vga cable

Test it by removing the memory and seeing what beep pattern you hear. Also. do you have another PC that you can use to test the two memory modules? Could be that something got damaged when you were changing them.

Please let me know what you find.

When you upgraded the memory, did you add a second 512 module or did you replace the existing module with one the is 1 GB? Also, there is an aligning notch in the edge of the module that plugs into the slot. Did you make sure that new module is properly aligned? Look in the bottom of the slot and you should be able to see the tab in in bottom that will fit into the slot.

Another thing to verify is that the new memory is the same type as the original module. There should be a sticker on each module that identifies the speed (PC2300 or similar).

Check that and then let me know what you find and I'll try to help you some more.

Looks like the connections in your system are loose.

just do this remove all the connections hdd,dvd other pci card or graphic cards.any other extra things other than motherboards own. donot connect the hdd or dvd.
then take out the ram and the battery on the motherboard. wait for a while then place the battery back and then insert the ram. place the smps connection to the motherboard and then power up the system.
you should now get the display and warnings that no bootable devices are found.

and check the bios settings after a successful display.
after that connect the devices one by one and check their detecting in the bios then you can keep all the extra cards.
this problem might be causing because of the bad CMOS checksum. just reset the bios through the jumper settings or remove the battery then the system will work fine

I have a Dell Dimension 2400. I want to upgrade from 512mb of memory to 1GB. The manual says I have two memory connectors. Do I get the 1GB, or two 512mb to upgrade? Thank you for your response.

Hello

Yes, you can upgrade your system upto 2GB RAM, buy another 512MB RAM DDR 333Mhz and install it to empty slot of RAM, it will upgrade the RAM to 1 GB.

Hope it will help, if so do rate the solution

I am going to upgrade ram to 1 gb. can i use ddr2 1 gb ram to upgrade .motherboard is microstar model ms-6526 ver: 2 . present ram is ddr1 400 MHz, 512 MB

If your computer has two RAM slots on the motherboard, i would recommend trying it. The computer will run on the 512MB stick alone and just not recognise the other stick. And if it works it works.

I have searced for support documentation and came up with none for the original MS-6526

I run my original version MS-6526 on a 512MB PC2300 (DDR1) and a 512MB PC3200 (DDR1) and it runs just fine for games and videos.

Personally I would recommend trying the DDR2 first and if that fails, return the card and get a DDR1 card. They are expensive, but at least they work.

New ram memory on dell dimension celeron trying to

You should check with the folks at Dell since whoever wrote their technical manuals for this machine can't do basic math. There are 2 memory slots and each can handle a maximum capacity of 512MB, yet they claim the maximum capacity for the machine is 2GB instead of 1GB. Using 512MB modules would probably work.

Can you expand the memory on a Systemax Intel SIS651 System

Your motherboard is actually a Foxconn 651M03.

According to your system you have :
512MB DDR333 PC2700 Non-ECC Memory (512MB x 1)
(One stick of 512MB)

The motherboard manual says this:
System Memory
Two 184-pin DDR DIMM slots
Supports PC1600/PC2100/PC2700 memory
Supports 64Mb/128Mb/256Mb/512Mb technology up to 2GB

(This means you can have a total of up to 2 Gigabytes of RAM)

If you upgrade your RAM, you will need to make sure that you get the correct type.

If you want to keep the RAM you have, you will only be able to have 1.5 GB of RAM because you only have two slots to work with. If you want to upgrade to the full 2 GB, you will need to buy 2, 1 GB sticks.
