Question about KitchenAid 24 in. KUDS02SRSS Stainless Steel Built-in Dishwasher

1 Answer

Detergent packs are not dissolving

When my dishwasher finished the normal cycle with the Sani-Rinse feature, the detergent, Cascade 2-in-1 action packs, was sitting at the bottom of the dishwasher, fully intact. I've run it three times since and I still have the same problem. Please help.

We own a kitchenaid dishwasher kdfe104dbl. Was not dissolving soap. Tried everything suggested. Then called repairman. He said it was the control board, which he said was damaged because the garbage disposal was on the same circuit. $350 repair. Still did not dissolve detergent. After much googling discovered the switch for the detergent dispenser was faulty. It was dropping the tablet at the end of the cycle, or dribbling the liquid out at the end of the cycle. I put the tablet directly at the bottom center of the dishwasher and it dissolved and cleaned the load. For now adding detergent manually, in two weeks we will replace the dispenser, OEM Whirlpool Dispenser W10409521, although there is a newer part number we could have purchased...hoping this older part number was not replaced because it fails regularly?

Either:

  1. the water does not get into the dishwasher open the dishwasher 3-4 times during cycle, you should see some water at least once, if not - check water valve, water level float and water pressure.
  2. the pump is clogged - there is water, the motor will run but no water is circulated. Check pump filters, check chopper and impeller.
  3. motor in main pump is not working - could be caused by something stuck on the impeller or chopper or could be a problem with the motor itself or control board. Check if line voltage is coming to the motor during wash/rinse cycle.
Good luck,

Glasses look filmy and fingerprints are still evident after even Pots & Pans cycle and sani-rinse.

It sounds like you have a serious wash problem. A couple things to check.

Be sure you are using fresh detergent. Old dish washing detergent looses its power and will not work. Be sure to use a name brand like Electrosol or Cascade they both contain the chemicals need to dissolve and clean properly. Use more detergent if you have hard water or use an additive such as lemi shine or glass magic to boost the water softness.

Try running the hot water faucet at your kitchen sink unit hot prior to starting the dishwasher this will help with the thermal energy needed to clean.,

If you still have trouble send me your complete model number from the tag on the tub so I can help trouble shoot the machine better.

check the water temperature, run hot water at the adjacent sink before pushing start on the dishwaher, or switch to powder, is your detergent door opening ? do not block the detergent door with long objects like spatulas etc.

Dishwasher 3 in 1 detergent tablet not dissolving.

I believe that the instructions for using these 3-in-1 tablets is to place it in the open dish detergent cup, rather than in the closable compartment, since the tablet needs to get doused by a lot of water in oder to fully dissolve and be effective in getting the dishes clean.

Since the tablets are designed to dissolve more slowly, they are able to be used for the entire range of washing cycles. If it's a constant problem and you don's have an open detergent cup below or next to your closed detergent dispenser, just toss it into the bottom of the dishwasher instead.

The reason that the tablet isn't getting dissolved fully is because the door is preventing the tablet from dropping all the way out and the door is shielding the tablet from quite a bit of water spray.

Another option is to take a look at your owners manual for the dishwasher and see if they recommend these all-in-one tablets versus regular powered detergent and liquid rinse aid.

Hope that helps and best regards!

The detergent dispenser opens but the cascade packet does not fall out and dissolve. Even when I used granulated detergent, sometimes it was coagulated in the soap cup at the end of the cycle - not...

Maybe that is a bit much... I thought of something else you might check... there is a screen at the bottom of the dishwasher... make sure it is clean so that water can keep recirculating.

The thing about adding water is that if you add the water at the beginning, it is going to circulate for 3 minutes or so and then dump out the water and attempt to refill. Most machines do a couple "rinse off" cycles before the soap dispenser opens and the machine washes the dishes for a long time. So you have to put the water in after you hear the dispenser "pop" open.

I'm not completely sure about the Kitchen Aid, but their might be a way to adjust the time that the water inlet valve stays open at the beginning of the cycle... you'll have to check your manual.

Detergent caked in holder after running a cycle, using Cascade

Try this before you jettison your current dishwasher. Yes, it is possible that the wash motor is getting weak, beginning to fail but:
Buy and use a box of brand name box of detergent powder Electrosol or Cascade. Stop using the generic powder and never use a gel or tablet in a dishwasher.
You will be amazed how how much better the detergent dissolves and the DW cleans.
Good Luck!

Please run the machine without detergent for 2-3 washes. Also try using a little hot water. Also, don't used cleaner and softener together but add softener on the last rinse.
