Whirlpool Gold dishwasher

By Sod07 on Sep 22, 2007

I have a Whirlpool Gold Quiet Partner 3 dishwasher. Lately, the dishes on the top rack do not get clean. It appears that there is no water getting to the top. I've checked the screen/filter on the inside-bottom of the machine and it's clean, as are the pipes that would normally bring the water to the top. Does this sound like it is the pump, or is there something else that I should be looking into ? Is this an issue that I can repair (I'm fairly handy) or do I need to call a repairman ? Please help. Thanks, Sod07

- I aperciate your advice, but in my case, there is no water getting to the top of the washer. Even the middle level water dispensing arm has very little water comming out of it, so little that the arm doesn't even rotate, the water just drips out of it. I've added more water to the system ( to the point of over filling it), and still- no water gets to the top (or middle).
I've removed the washer arms and internal water pipes and none of them are block. Same is true for the screen and drains at the inside bottom of the washer. I'm afraid I'm going to have to call a service man. It's not that I'm cheap, But I thought I could fix this if I had some good advice. Thanks for your advice.

- Jolliguil and Pennysmom, I found my answer, but needed to call the Sears repair people. Originally, I decided that I didn't want to sign-up for the "service contract" which costs ~ $ 210.00, so, I told the operator I'd pay for the service call (~ $ 75.) and would pay for the repair on top of that, because I thought it was something minor. Well, my wife said I should have gotten the "contract". That was all I needed to hear (I've been married 26 years - if you know what I mean), so I imediately called back and got the contract. A week later, the repairman came over and said it was the motor, and that I was lucky to have gotten the contract. Anyhow , the job was complete within 1 1/2 hours and cost only ~ $ 225.00, whereas it would have cost ~ $ 350.00 for the motor alone, and then the labor and service call on top of that. It works like new now. Just one of those lucky things that normally doesn't happen to me.

Same Problem

-   I have a Whirlpool Gold dishwasher about a year old and have problems with the detergent not dissolving. It gets all over the silverware and I have to hand wash ... and scrub... to get it off. It also leaves a white residue on the glasses.

I have tried different types of detergents... powder, liquid and the tablets that have the rinse agent in them,,, and have had the same results.

The guy who sold me the machine suggested that I move the silverware rack off the door onto the rack but the results are even worse. Does anyone have any suggestions?

It looks like there is not enough water pressure to spin the spray arms. Loss of pressure may be due to various things, like damaged seal, cracked tubes, clogged filters, screens etc.
I suggest you take a look at the technician repair sheet that should be stored inside the front panel at the bottom of the door. Remove that panel under the door with screw driver. Inside, attached to the panel, you should find a troubleshooting guide and solution for technician. But it is easy to follow. Look at the section under "poor wash" and follow its recommendation. I had exact same problem - not enough water pressure. In my case, the chopper screen was clogged and the chopper assemply was broken. I followed the repair instruction above to remove the chopper assembly, cleaned the chopper screen and the washer now is as good as new. I will need to replace the chopper when the part arrives.
Good Luck

My Whirlpool dishwasher is only 2 years old and I started having the same problems. I dismantled everything I could and washed and scrubbed the entire unit with EVERYTHING..to no avail, dirty dishes!! But I discovered a remedy! Try using Lemi-Shine for about a week with your regular wash-soap. If you are using the tablet form of soap, stop and try the powdered form. Follow the instructions on the Lemi-Shine container. You can find it just about anywhere for around $3.50. I was within "5 seconds" of replacing my 2 year old Whirlpool dishwasher when this caught my eye and I figured why not try it too? After the first wash I noticed a big difference the cleanliness of the dishes..and now it is running GREAT after 2 weeks!

I have the same problem as "Guest" who posted on Aug 11, 2008. Hey Guest: were you able to fix your problem with the tube feed and the valves where the upper tray probe connects?

We have the same Whirlpool dishwasher - and I think I know the cause of the problem (I'm just not sure how to fix it).  The dishwasher top rack can be moved up and down, giving the dishwasher flexibility to fit larger dishes on the bottom or top depending if you have the top shelf "High" or "low."  I really like this feature, but it appears this is the problem why our dishes are not getting clean on the top shelf.  The "plugs" on the inside back wall of the dishwasher no longer make a seal (in fact one is missing) so when the water rushes up to the middle and top arms, the water sprays out through the unsealed hole creating a serious lack of water pressure.  So now I just need to find out if I can easily buy and replace the little one-way sealing valves on the back inside of the dishwasher wall (where the middle arm plugs in, when you push the rack all the way).... after all, I am not "Mr. Fix it."  I hope this helps.

Liquid diswasher soap is thrown out of the door when the diswasher starts and is found on the floor daily.
