Clean discs and clean the system. If no problem there you will have to clean the laser eye. might have to tear apart and clean with a lens cleaner if one of those dvd/cd-rom cleaner disc doesnt work. lots of videos on you tube to aid in the disassemble of the playstation. if that dont work then you are like me and have a broken blue ray lense. Very common problem with PS3's. Replacement of one of these will cost around $40-70 for the part. If you are comfortable doing something like this. If you dont know what you are doing I dont recommend disassembling your system. There are plenty of people out there that have started business' out there to fix all game systems and there faults. they are fairly resonable. I have the 40 gig orignal PS3 and mine broke on xmas. everything works but it will not play any cd, dvd, blue ray, or game disc. My eye is bad. send to playstation if you have warranty. If warranty is up it will cost $100 + to send it to playstation and for diagnoses of your system. hope this helps.
the same thing is happening to me at the moment i am being told by people that the laser or something like that is dead and i could cost 150 if u send it 2 sony to fix if u dont have warrinty or u can get it fixed for 100 less if u do it urself if i find any soulutions ill keep u update etc.PLZ do the same for me thank u .
it Depends on the model but usually this happens because of dust or dirt on the lens so a cleaner may help. although if that doesn't work it means the laser has gone bad, which is a common problem with ps3's. Some newer models of ps3 have dual lasers so if the blu-ray laser fails you wont be able to play blu -ray disc (games, movies) but the other laser will still read dvds (non blu ray) and cds
