Question about Zebra TLP 2844-Z Thermal Label Printer

TLP 2844-Z is faded on the right half when it prints

My boss just got us a used Zebra TLP 2844-Z printer. After (finally) hooking it up to my computer and getting it to print at all, I'm finding that the right quarter or so of any label I print doesn't show up. It starts fading at about the halfway mark, right in the middle, and fades from the halfway point to about the 3/4 mark where no ink is on the page at all.

Does it need to be cleaned (and if so, how?) or is there some other problem that is fixable?

The printer is printing extremely light, in fact it doesn't show any ink marks at all, it rather shows just a slight marking that something was written there

Above (calibration) solution would work on a TLP2844 not a TLP2844-Z.

Reset Z model by loading media, Turn printer on and get a green light (Ready).

Then hold down feed button and wait for flashing led sequence.

Release button after 4 flashes (Performs reset)

1 flash - prints config
2 flashes - performs calibration.

There is no mechanical adjustment of the printhead on desktop models. Try cleaning the printhead with isoproply alcohol and a cotton bud.

It probably needs a print head adjustment or calibration.
Here is a link for the user guide,(it takes a minute to load and display) you will find cleaning and diagnosing tips :

If your zebra label printer is not feeding to the next label correctly it may need to be calibrated. Follow these steps to calibrate the printer:

  1. Turn off printer and have media loaded (on older Transports, with no ON/OFF switch, remove battery).
  2. Hold feed button down, and turn printer back on (on older Transports, re-insert battery) while holding down the feed button.
  3. When the light starts flashing, release the feed button.
  4. Printer light will turn green and advance a few blanks.
  5. After printer stops advancing and prints the internal information, press the feed button one time.
  6. You will get another label with the “Out of Dump” message on it.
  7. Printer is now ready for use.
Click on this link or copy and paste the complete link into your browser.
If I could be of further assistance, let me know. If this helps or solves the issue, please rate it.
Thanks, Joe

Manual Calibration page 42 of the manual:

Manual calibration is recommended whenever you are using pre-printed

media or if the printer will not correctly auto calibrate.

    1. Make sure media is loaded.

    2. Turn on the printer power.

    3. Press and hold the feed button until the green status LED flashes once,

then twice. Release the feed button.

    4. The printer will set the media sensor for the label backing being used.

After it is done making this adjustment, the roll will automatically feed

until a label is positioned at the print head.

    5. A profile of the media sensor settings (similar to the example below)

will print. Upon completion, the printer will save the new settings in

memory and the printer is ready for normal operation.

    6. Press the feed button. One entire blank label will feed. If this does not

happen, try defaulting (refer to the four-flash sequence in “Feed Button

Modes” on page 45) and recalibrating the printer.

NOTE: Performing a manual calibration disables the auto calibration

function. To return to auto calibration, default the printer (see the

four-flash sequence in “Feed Button Modes” on page 45).

Problem printing on Glossy Label [butterfly label] using Zebra TLP 2844 EPL

You must make sure that the ribbon is compatible with the label you are attempting to print on. It must be a permanent resin. We use the AXR7+ material. Try to avoid using such a high printer head temperature as this will reduce the life of the head.
