Echo Leaf Blower Recoil Spring Installation

I just bought a new recoil spring for my echo leaf blower. I have no instructions on how to install it. There is a thin wire that wraps around the spring and I took it off while trying to install but the spring kept coming unwound. So, I have wrapped it back around the spring and have the spring in the housing (w/ends of springs in slots) but the wire is still in there wrapped around the spring....am I missing something here? How do you get the wire out...or does it come out?
Really would appreciate the help.
Ron

Pull cord

This is caused by a broken recoil spring. It can be replaced (or sometimes repaired) but it can be a dangerous and dirty job. The spring is cheap, so get a quote from a local shop for repairs.

Where do you find the serial number of a echo PB403T

Model and serial number are underneath the recoil starter, on the engine block. Tip the blow on it's non-engine side and look right above the tank from underneath the blower.

Cord is locked, or maybe its the motor. Its an Echo PB260L Backpack

This is easy enough to check. There are 4 screws that secure the recoil starter to the engine. Remove these 4 screws and remove the starter assembly. Pull on the rope and see if the starter is operating properly. If not, go to your local Echo dealer and get a new one...they are about $30. Also try to turn the starter cup by hand to see if the engine is locked up. If the engine is locked up, remove the spark plug and try to turn the starter cup again. If it is still locked up, then the repairs would cost more than a new blower.
Good luck!

The cord sounds like its came loose and won't spin the engine

you need to remove the re-coil mechanism and if the cord isnt too bad retie it on the recoil and rewind the recoil spring and reassemble to the blower

When I pull out the coil to start my gas blower, it doesnt "recoil" on its own??

The recoil spring is broken, jammed, or has come lose from either end of it's attachment points. This will require disassembly and most likely replacement of the spring.

Good Luck
