Question about HP DeskJet 9650 InkJet Printer

Hp-dj 9650 won't print

The "resume" light comes on when I power up. I've pressed it over and over to no avail. Media is loaded, there is no paper jam, the duplexer is properly installed, ect. When I print a word doc I see it in the print queue then it's gone... as if it printed. But nothing comes out of the printer. I tried using the printers services to calibrate but, again, it won't print the calibration page. Arrrrg!

    I did that also.

I changed the black print cartridge (56) and when I tried to print a map, both print cartridge lights began blinking and the error message " damaged or incompatible black or photo cartridge" appeared on my monitor. I've relaced the cartridge with a new one, had the company IT guy look at it and ran an online ran a diagnostic analysis on it and still my deskjet 9650 isn't working. The printers about 3 years old and this is the first problem I've had with it. bp

This is from Canon's web site...

Ten flashes:The Cassette is not installed properly/Cannot perform duplex printing
  • When loading from the Cassette, install the Cassette properly and press the RESUME/CANCEL button.
  • When performing automatic duplex printing, the size of paper may not be compatible with automatic duplex printing. The sizes of media suitable for auto duplex printing are A3, Regal, 11" x 17" (Tabloid), B4, A4, Letter, 10" x 12", 8" x 10", B5, and A5". Make sure that the size of the paper loaded in the printer is correct. Pressing the RESUME/CANCEL button will eject the paper and restart printing from the front side of the next paper. The reverse side of the ejected sheet will not be printed.

Hello Brian,

I found the following on Canon's website.

Not sure if it will fix your issue but thought it might be worth a try:

Ten flashes:The Cassette is not installed properly/Cannot perform duplex printing
  • When loading from the Cassette, install the Cassette properly and press the RESUME/CANCEL button.
  • When performing automatic duplex printing, the size of paper may not be compatible with automatic duplex printing. The sizes of media suitable for auto duplex printing are A3, Regal, 11" x 17" (Tabloid), B4, A4, Letter, 10" x 12", 8" x 10", B5, and A5". My Canon Pixma MP600R insists that paper is jamed in machine, despite the fact that jam has been cleared and paper is being ejected when machine is switched on

The simplest thing would be to try unplugging the printer from the power source. Let it rest for 5 - 10 minutes then plug back in to the power supply and see if that resolves the problem.

If not you are going to need to do a thorugh inspection to verify that all paper remnants have been removed.

The following is for the MP600:

Be careful not to touch the components inside the printer.

    5. Turn on the printer and confirm that the Alarm light is off.
(If the jammed paper remains in the printer, the paper may be automatically ejected.)

Clearing credit card-sized paper jammed inside the printer
Credit card-sized and 4" x 6" sized paper must be loaded properly. If this media is not loaded properly, it will feed into the printer and will not exit. Credit card-sized paper should only be loaded in the ASF and in portrait orientation. 4" x 6" sized paper can be loaded in the ASF or cassette. But must be loaded portrait orientation.
If credit card-sized paper was loaded in landscape orientation in the ASF and did not eject (exit), please follow this procedure.

    1. Turn off the printer.

    2. Load the same paper type that is jammed inside the printer in portrait orientation.

If 4" x 6" sized paper was loaded in landscape orientation in the cassette and did not eject (exit), please follow this procedure.
    1. Turn off the printer.

    2. Open the rear cover.

    3. Fold in four a piece of letter-sized plain paper.

    4. Push in the folded paper until it hits the jammed paper.

    5. If the jammed paper is visible from inside the printer area, pull it out and proceed to step 7.

    6. If the jammed paper cannot be pulled out, push in the folder paper from the rear so the jammed paper is in between the feed rollers.

    7. Pull out the folded paper and close the rear cover.

    8. Power on the printer and confirm that the Alarm light is off.
The jammed paper should automatically eject.
