Problem should be in the switch that activates either inner or outer burner selection. It is the only source that makes selection possible

Replacing switch is just plug it in the same way, with it unplugged. If you can use other elements to cook on without operating that one until it is repaired then it isn't a safety hazzard. Probably would be fine to use it as is just would be safe and leave it alone until repaired

I just moved to a fully furnished apartment. How do I turn off the schott ceran cooktop. Both knobs are already pointing to zero but one of the lights is still on.

This cook top light may stay on until the heating element has cooled down,
This is a warning that the top is still hot to warn you so you do not get burnt.

The left top element is not working, the control knob lights up but doesn't heat. Is it the element or the switch? Mod#JED8430BDB Ser#1414040011A Schott Ceran

It could be either. The only way to properly check is by dismantling the cooktop and checking the circuit with a volt meter or test lamps.

Dual element burner not working

You have to use a voltmeter and test the voltage where the wires connect to the element. If you have voltage (probably 240volts) then the switch is good.

You then remove the element, and check it with an ohm meter to verify that the element is open.

Sounds like the switch to me, but you have to check it

Top element only stays on high

The trouble would be a failed infinite heat switch. This is the adjustable switch you are using to set the element to low, medium or high.

**Use extreme caution if you are making the repairs yourself.....Turn off circuit breaker and verify power is off with a meter. 240VAC is present at the switch. In addition, the glass top and elements are very fragile.

One of the dual element not heating up on a smooth top electric range

If this section was working before then it is either a defective switch or there is a burnt out section in the heating element - more often than not its the latter - the heating element would have to be replaced
