A fan draws air across the coil to cool the refrigerator side. When ice builds up, air will not flow across the coils. You may also notice that the fan is noisy. The problem may be a bad temperature control board assy. About $216 for the part.

Frig & freezer not cooling enough. Ice forming in back of bottom freezer.

You need to have the defrost cycle checked.( heater, limit stat, timer) If the frig can't defrost air can't move across your coils to cool properly. To temporarily get by until you can get a repairman, use a blow dryer to melt the ice build up. Once melted it will work normally for about 2 days till it freezes up again.

Freezer works, but has some ice forming and refrigerator not cooling.

The refrigerator half of a refrigerator/freezer does not produce any cold! The refrigerator is cooled by transferring air from the freezer to the fridge. The fridge temperature setting controls a flapper between the freezer and the fridge. There should be a fan which blows air from the freezer into the fridge (through the damper).
If the ice forming in the freezer is concealing the cooling coil and air can not move through the coils, then the overall result will be a warm freezer (even though there may be ice in one location) and a warmer yet fridge. This can be tested by unplugging the fridge and allowing a complete thaw. If the ice is the cause of the problem, then it should work for a short while until it freezes up improperly again
:o).

Remove the bottom snap in grille and vacuum out the dirt and dust from the coil and anything else you can reach. You may need to make an extension with paper towel tubes flattened a little and tape to get into the cramped spaces. I use a piece of clear plastic pipe stuck in the suction with a long angled split cut on the cleaning end. Maybe also move the fridge out, vacuum and clean the flooring area also. Freezer cools to 10 degrees, refrigerator cools to 50 degrees

check if the fan is working and you are circulating air efficiently. You may check on the coils at the freezer if there are ice formation. I would suggest to have the ice melted by unplugging it and ensuring that all parts are ice free. Clean the unit while at it.

Not cooling, ice on evap. coil

After ten years, the defrost coil may be bad. That will allow the evaporator to ice up. Find the defrost timer, check it out first. Some have a manual control.

Kenmore coldspot not making ice, and not cooling in the bottom

Your refrigerator is frosted up. Remove the inside panel of your freezer. Defrost the ice out of the coils and check the heater and bi-metal. If both are good then your defrost timer is bad. If one is bad replace and you have it fixed. Good luck.

not easy to diagnose. the basic fault is that the defrost system has packed up.

check that there is continuity thro the defrost heater. there may also be a thermal fuse in series with the heater so check that also.

if those ok, then points to a fault in the main module
