Question about Samsung LN-S4692D 46 in. LCD HDTV

1 Answer

No picture just sound

This looks like an ongoing problem. I have no picture just sound on all inputs. Read troubleshooting in manual and it is lame.I tried everything(resetting and unpluging included) I cannot get menu screen. There is a glimmer of light on switching from source to source. I see other people have had same problem. I called Samsung and they are sending someone out in 4 days. I only had the TV for 10 months. Supposedly it is still under warranty. Will let you know outcome.

Thanks for the response. Once the tech fixes the problem how long should the TV Last?

  • remidad Sep 24, 2007

Thank you for the quick responce and additional info. How long after the repair do you think the TV will last? Am I doomed with this set?

  • remidad Sep 26, 2007

Well the repairman came out without any parts to fix the TV. I guess he came out to make sure it was really broken like I said. Now I must wait another week for the part and a subsequent visit. I described the problem to the Samsung call center over the phone and was specific. They told me that was good to give the tech as much information so he can have the right parts when he comes. So much for that thought!!

It is common. After the repair is completed, make sure the technician does the firmware upgrade to your set. The new firmware upgrade should be version 3008 and when the technician pulls up the service menu it will say it there. Let me know how it went. Lead Tech

Rosen roof dvd player has sound but no picture please help

Hi Gill.
Check, Make sure the cables are connected. Try cleaning the laser and the DVD. Make sure the TV is on the correct input.
try swapping one of the sound cables to see if the yellow cables is in fact damaged.
1) Plug the DVD player in to the TV that it does work on. Make sure there is no disc in the player. Check the DVD players set up menu. Look in the Picture menu and change the output to "RGB" Move the player back to the TV/VHS Combi. Select the input that gives you RGB1.

2) Same as above, but this time change the Picture menu to PAL (or composite or Video....whatever is the other option name that isn't RGB or S-Video). Retest on the Combi, but this time you want AV1.

If these don't work then you might need to have a look in the TV manual about connecting external sources. It could be that because the combi has a recorder that it's trying to stop you from copying DVD to VHS. See if there's an input on the combi that bypases the recorder.

I have an AKAI SS-3800 home theatre system which connects to my DVD player by 6 cables to get 5.1 surround sound. Can it be connected to a bluray player to get 5.1 surround sound

Most DVD (and Blu-Ray) players have digital 5.1 audio outputs and some (like yours) also have analog outputs for electronics that lack a digital audio input (*).

I can't get a description (or picture) of the inputs beyond its having two, one 5.1 and one stereo. No mention of digital. Even at the lame akai site.

http://www.akai.com/product_detail.asp?id=3&id2=20&id3=58

* Like the Akai SS-3800 ??

So if the BD has 5.1 analog outs, yes, it will connect the same way as the DVD. Otherwise, you're limited to stereo analog audio (yuk).

hi, try these steps...

Use the source button to ensure that source is not set to the wrong input.

Try unplugging power cord for ten minutes, to ensure it is not a setting problem.

Check all the video cables at the back of TV.

Check Light /Color settings.

If problem persist and does not depend on external receiver or settings, then it is likely an internal fault.

If it has sound but no picture then one of the following parts is faulty, and must be tested and replaced:

The inverter is the high voltage board that provides variable power to the backlight lamp. This is the most common. When inverter is faulty you can get no picture, or a very dim picture that can only be seen by pointing a torch light with a 45 degree angle on the LCD surface from very near distance.
The inverter must be tested by reading voltages with a multimeter.

The LCD ribbon cable/LCD display and connectors.
This is quite uncommon, but happens. If the TV had been hit or moved the LCD cable may have slipped out, or the LCD connector may be damaged.

The LCD controller board.
This is the board that controls the video signal, it is difficult to test, as there is need to read determined values on IC pins. To test this board you need to purchase a service manual and follow the troubleshooting diagrams on service manual.

Input/Output Signal boards.
This are the boards where you connect the video and audio cables, if a signal board is defective, then you may get no picture on particular inputs located on faulty board.

good luck!

I have a JVC I'Art Pro 42" HDTV ready projection TV. Recently, it started intermittently flickering (Picture would go from correct to negative looking). Now this video circuit problem is negative picture...

Hi.

It is not video circuits on main controller or convergence.

This TV uses a CRS system with three CRT tube lamps, red, green and blue.

The problem is likely one or more of the CRT individual high voltage PSUs failing intermittently, if problem is associated to vibration, then it is a cold solder joint , otherwise it is a faulty component.

No Sound from HOme Theater DVD

Does this happen with all movies, or just one?
It's likely that you just need to change the input on your receiver to the correct input.
ie; if your DVD player is hooked up to Video 2, you just need to switch your receiver to Video 2.

We have sound but no picture i have sound but no picture. when you change inputs the word input is doubled up and distorted

There were not much info in the manual but it did suggest trying this.
1st- Unplug for a few minutes and then plug it back in. Or use the reset button look it up in the manual. MANUAL

2nd- Blank screen troubleshooting

• If you're trying to watch TV, change channels or press the ANTENNA button to switch tuners.
• If you're trying to watch something that's playing on a component connected to the TV (like a DVD or a VCR tape), press the TV
button on the remote, then press INPUT until you get to the correct video input channel.
• If you're trying to watch a component (like your DVD player or VCR), make sure the component connected to the TV is turned on.
• If you're trying to watch a component (like your DVD player or VCR), make sure the component is connected correctly.

Post back if non of these ideas work and explain if there are any lights flashing or changing colors on the front where the green light usually is. A fixya rating would be appreciated, thank you for stopping by Fixya!
