You should boot off the XP install disk, and it will ask you wich drive to format, then just follow the instructions!

I have a single installation of Ubuntu 11.10. How do I remove it and install Windows 7? Have tried from the Windows boot disk but I dont know what my drive letter is as Ubuntu does not name it????

You can use the windows disk to over-write the ubuntu installation. Just boot from the windows disk, and when it asks where to install, tell it to format the disk and create a partition from the unpartitioned space. Windows will format the disk and you should be good to go. Keep in mind, everything on the disk will be lost.

I have a lenovo g540..why not supported window 7 ? if i installing window 7 always blue screen when completing installation

All computers with minimum requirements are able to install Windows 7.
The installation CD you are using must be faulty,
use a new Windows 7 CD, and it should work.

You can also try to format your Hard Disk during the installation process to remove the old damaged Operating system files, if you are not performing a disk format, please make sure you back up all your data to a separate partition or an external drive before formatting as all your data will be deleted.

Thank you for using Fixya,

Trying to load packard bell ,its formated hard drive ,next screen i have c:\ what do i put to continue

The system is trying to boot from the C drive i,e, the HDD, you need to continue after formatting from the CD/DVD.

Presumable it initially booted from the disk and you went through the procedure wizard of telling the computer to install a fresh copy of the operating system deleting any existing operating systems, and you didn't ask it to partition the disk and retain the OS that was originally on the HDD.

After formatting it should continue to install the OS on the drive you specified from the CD/DVD disk.

Start again you have nothing to lose as the HDD is now formatted and all previous information is lost, but this time read the screens that come up carefully.

One final point you did put the disk in then power up the computer didn't you????? not put the disk in and try and re install.

The computer has to be booted from the disk.

If you want your installation disk for formatting your system, you can go for any other XP or Vista or Se7en OS Disk to format your computer other than your old XP disk. It will not cause any problem.

Can't format disk. I do have laptop Gericom and restore system CD come along with it, but when set up new system from CD does not give me an option to format disk as usual with OS CD. After setting up...

You will need to format the disk before trying to install the OS. Download and burn something like Hyrems or the Ultimate boot disk or GParted. and use the partition tools to re-partition the hard disk and format it.

Hope this helps,

Set up cannot complete formating. the disk maybe damaged.

This problem is usually related to hard disk, so you need to double-check the hard disk. You can change the power cable which is connected to the hard disk and make sure it fits. Also check the Ide or Sata cable, if possible replace them. It's best to connect only the drive to be formatted with the Cd rom, I would suggest you to remove any other additional drives if they are also connected. The main problem is with the hard disk no doubt, since you can start formatting, there must be a little mistake. The next step would be the bios. Anyway try this first and let's go to the next step if this doesn't fix. Good luck. Thanks for using FixYa.

Installation of XP MCE won't finish

You need to set the pc to boot from the install disk. Then it should detect the failed install. Either select a new location or over write or format the disk and install.
Trying to recover from a failed install is usually far more trouble than its worth. You usually end up with a unreliable install and nothing but headaches.
