Have you checked the proxy settings for the internet explorer? They can be configured on a per-user basis, and if all of your web traffic is going through a non-existent server, it wouldn't be able to connect.

Of course you could always try the alternate method of installing Firefox or Chrome - they are both faster ( in almost every single way) and safer ( smaller chance of getting viruses) then Internet Explorer. Good Luck.

1) Clear your browsers out
