i use a lot of computers that have mouse's that i have to
list it slightly and let them ride on a finger when they are
off the mouse pad.
a few weeks ago, my good mouse finally frayed its cord and i
had to start using one of my redundant mouse's that needs a
mouse pad.
i noticed immediately that it could work almost normally if
i lifted it 1/4 inch off the table.
I'm not going to deal with this like that though..
i speculated that it must be because the laser sensor is too
sensitive..( since it works better from farther away....)
i wanted to try to put a piece of scotch tape over it to
act as a diffuser to make it less sensitive, but i was too
busy. lol. so like a month later . i finally tried the tape
idea, and it works perfectly!!!. dam
if you get an optical mouse that goes crazy without a mouse
pad, you should try this

go to mouse settings in Control Panel, then choose your touchpad and change the sensitivity.

The problem is very simple. The sensitivity of the mouse pad is too high in your laptop i guess. Try adjusting the sensitivity of the mouse. Go to control panel-> mouse options->mouse sensitivity. Try changing the double clicking speed, mouse sensitivity etc and check your mouse operation now.

I don't know if you mean that your cursor suddenly moves as you are typing? If so, it is likely your touch pad is too sensitive. I have a mouse w/mouse pad but never disabled the touch pad. So i disabled the touch pad and it solved it for me. If you want to be sure it is the touch pad being over sensitive, then type a paragraph but keep your fingers and palms far away from the touch pad. If the problem improves, like it did for me, then the touchpad is too sensitive. You can go into the settings for the touchpad to change the sensitivity setting to make it less senstive and see if that works and it does not then press Fn +F7 keys to disable the touchpad.

Most games have an option to change the mouse sensitivity in the control options.

Oftentimes newer optical mice have a lower resolution that causes them to move very slowly in games.

acually, your problem is windows updates, I am using vista, and I have a Razer Copeprhead, I had similar problems as you, my mouse was working fine, but an update for the Razer Auto-Installed from Windows Update, which made my mouse start doing it. First it happened on my computer, now it happened on my dad's laptop, I first assumed the internal connection was damaged, so I was beating my mouse to death....CoD4 with mouse failure = ANGRY RAMPAGE! lol. So yea what it is is you have to COMPLETELY uninstall your drivers, then connect the mouse and re-install drivers, there ya go done!

Hi, click on start and control panel. go to mouse properties. Try to look for a tab that says either touch or touchpad. you can change the sensitivity settings there. however if this doesnt work, this could only mean that this is a physical problem with the toucpad. try to apply pressure on the outer side of the touchpad. if it moves, you're gonna need a replacement palmrest.

Could there be some dust inside the laser eye or something else. On what surface are you using it. Try it on a blank piece of paper
