Error message on c.itoh ci3500 printer reads a11. What does it mean?

The printer is a c.itoh ci3500 dot matrix and when it does not print the message reads a11. When this happens there is nothing to do but turn the printer off and back on again, which does tend to solve the problem some times but not all.

  • syman_ripden May 06, 2009

ginko - this is a dot matrix PRINTER made by C.itoh Electronics and has nothing to do with Ricoh!

  • syman_ripden May 06, 2009

the head is not the problem - it glides along the track and prints fine

  • syman_ripden May 06, 2009

The drivers are not the solution - the printer prints FINE!
There are certain times, when you first turn the machine on, when an error beep will sound and the error message "a11" shows on the display. When this happens there is nothing you can do to the machine except turn it off - it will except no commands. Sometimes you can turn it off, wait for 1 minute or so, turn it back on, and the whatever the problem was has resolved itself. I specifically need to know what the error message "a11" means so this problem can be resolve in the future.

RUBICON is the software that lets the computer talk to the printer - it has nothing to do with the printer itself or the error message I get.

  • syman_ripden May 07, 2009

We use an IBM computer with MS-DOS OS

  • syman_ripden May 08, 2009

you must be kidding! how can you offer advice like this? it's obvious you don't know what type of product i have! the c.itoh ci3500 dot matrix printer is a RIBBON printer - NOT a toner printer. This site may work well for some things but these results have been disappointing!

I called one of the only places in the USA that knows the cause of this error code, the definition is:

    "ABNORMAL PRINTER CARRIAGE POSITION"

The problem can be caused by the carriage shaft being gummed up, try cleaning it with WD40, also the carriage "HOME POSITION SENSOR" can cause this issue, that of couse would need replacing.

IF U WOULD LIKE MORE TECH SUPPORT FOR THIS PRINTER OR MAYBE AN EXCHANGE UNIT CALL THE COMPANY I TALKED TO, THEY ARE A PRINTER SUPPLY AND REPAIR FACILITY. THE NUMBER IS 1-714-554-1510, ASK FOR TONY.

I know my answer may not be liked by you, but my simple suggestion is to not use the toner but put in compatible ribbon(black) and disable the toner feed. If after replacement, the printer does not show this problem then you will be sure that the problem was with the Toner. The printer must be in use for a considerable time period and if I am right, this problem did not occur anytime before now. Its an intuition that the Toner quality might not be good enough or it has been used after a long period on the shelf. If some toner, due to stickiness or being too dry, sometimes forms a fine layer over the sensor causing it to display error message during its Power On Self Test. On switching it on & off causes some movement of the head which sometimes clears it and the printer starts functioning again. Do try replacing the toner with a compatible ribbon, just to see if the same error message reappears. If not then you are left with two choices, viz. keep using the printer ribbon or replace the toner cartridge with a fresh one and hopefully this error won't repeat itself..........................................sodeep

If you open the duplexer cover, you will see a photo interupt sensor on
the right. Stick a piece of paper in it. Take the waste bottle out, so
you can see the inside of the duplexer. Turn the machine on. A minimal
amount of waste toner will fall, and can be easily cleaned up. There
are two stacker guides in the duplexer. One stacks lengthwise, the
other width wise. If memory serves me correctly, the horizontal guide
not moving, or the sensor not sensing movement causes that error. If
the guide moves, the sensor is probably dirty or bad. ---- try unplugging and replugging your printer try uninstalling it and running a virus scan on it and then installing it again

A11 is not a valid error code on Ricoh. A11 indicates that the PSU (A11) is involved in the problem.

Ricoh error codes start always with SC. To read error codes on a ricoh you need to enter in service mode. Here procedures for several models (your model should be the same as AP3800):

You can get full service manual here.

Do not forget to leave feedback..

    Many thanks.

Error 030 fatal error

ecblank.gif What does "Fatal Error" mean? ecblank.gif ecblank.gif ecblank.gif ecblank.gif
ecblank.gif ecblank.gif Summary: Printer has displayed a "Fatal Error" message. This simply means a problem has occurred requiring you to take action. It does NOT mean that your printer has "died". ecblank.gif ecblank.gif ecblank.gif ecblank.gif
ecblank.gif ecblank.gif Your printer display or status monitor may read "Fatal Error". This simply means a problem has occurred requiring action to clear.
A "Fatal Error" does not mean your printer will "die". Fatal Error explanations are not usually found in the User's Guide or Handy Reference Guide.

RECOMMENDED NEXT STEP: First, try turning off your printer then turning it back on. If this does not clear the message or remedy the problem, check to see if your printer is on a power strip (or not plugged directly into the wall). For testing purposes, be sure the printer is plugged directly into the wall. Often, the issue is power-related.

Second, if the issue persists after this, write down the message (including the 3-digit error code number) and email us at "support@okidata.com" or call Oki Data Customer Support (1-800-654-3282) for assistance.

NOTE: If you see a series of letters and numbers(scrolling across the display) after the 3-digit error code, be sure to write these down also and report them when call or emailing Customer Support.

Error code A21

A21 Home Error refers to the printhead not moving. Most cases, it is due to the fuse being blown on the main logic board. You have to remove the top cover. Open the clear cover, pop out the plastic pins, remove, then pull off the tractor knob on the right, remove the two screws at the top back of the printer, lift up the cover from the back towards the front. You will have to unplug an electrical connect ribbon from behind the control panel. Check the fuse and replace if necessary.

Did you check the lines per page setting on the printer? For normal 11" length forms, the setting should be 66lpp.

Can't What displayed error message means

49 error normally means that the information sent to the printer is corrupted clear the print que shut down printer and restart. If problem still there then shutdown the printer then remove one of the additional memory turn back on if still same problem repeat removal of the next memory replacing the one you have just removed and so on. After you have done this and you are still getting the problem then it is 99% certain that the printer system firmware is corrupted or the formatter control board is faulty.

Thanks J
