Try the hard reset: press menu button and action button for 5 sec together while it is plugged into the charger. if it still doesn't connect after the restart you may need a new logic board. you can try to do it yourself: iPod classic repair guide. look into the dock connector, if you see broken or bent pins, then that is why it doesn't connect, otherwise there is an electronic issue with the logic board.

What could be the problem if my iPod Classic won't charge?

Be sure to connect the charging/sync cable directly to the computer, not a USB hub. Most hubs are don't provide enough power to the usb ports to charge the ipod. If you need a method of charging the ipod while away from the computer connect your sync cable to a device like these: Even the USB port on Apple keyboards is not able to charge the Ipod.

If you're using the computer to charge the Ipod, be sure it stays on, when computers go into sleep or standby modes they stop charging your ipod. You may want to use one of the options below to charge your Ipod when the computer is off or in a different location than the Ipod.

How do you you hook up an ipod to a computer

  1. Connect the small end of the USB cable to a high-powered (2.0) USB port on your computer.
  2. Connect the large end of the USB cable to your iPod's dock connector, which is located on the bottom of your iPod.
  3. Open the iTunes software on your computer. When your computer recognizes your iPod, an iPod icon will be displayed in the device list on the left-hand side of the iTunes software window.

Comp not reconizing ipod in any way not even in device manger ,mt cpmputer or itunes

You need to isolate the problem, you may try the following:

1. Try connecting the iPod into different computer.
2. Try using different data cable to see if there's a problem with the cable or with the iPod.

Other than that, you need to contact the manufacturer for possible reformat.

Have a great day!

Ipod nano 3rd gen

It's in disk mode and the computer thinks that it is only a storage device. You need to reset it to get it back to normal.

You can reset your ipod by holding down the menu and select (round button in the center) buttons down for at least 10 seconds. You'll see an apple logo flash, that's when you stop pressing the buttons. It will shut off, then back on.
