Epson Stylus Photo R800 Printer-black smudges edges of envelopes

Trying to print return addresses on envelopes and I keep getting black smudges around the edges of the envelopes - random places.

I've tried nozzle check; head cleaning; print head alignment utilities with no resolution... it seems there is just a build up of extra printer ink that appears to "scrape off" onto the envelop at inopportune times. (I'm not printing black print at the moment...)

How do I clean the rollers or whatever the ink has built up on so I don't ruin another run of expensive envelopes? Whatever you can do to help would be MOST appreciated.

Well, guess I'm going to share the answer I was finally able to receive from second level Epson support. Hopefully you can avoid the 45 minute hold/transfer/hold process to get the answer.

Turns out there is an easy fix (at least for my version which is 6.52).
I was printing from MS Word 2007 - (from the "File" -> "Print" -> and then) "Properties" area, select the "Maintenance" tab and toward the bottom of the page select "Printer and Option Information" there is a small button toward the bottom of that window where one can place a check mark beside "Thick paper and envelopes" and then select "OK" and return to the printing window. When you print, you'll receive a dialog box reminding you this is selected and double checking that you are indeed using thick envelope or paper stock.

Certainly seems like something Epson should include a little higher up in the dialogs under printing preferences or paper type area.

Bottom line, 6 new envelopes printed... no smudges after simply selecting this button.

I can't find an "envelope" option on the printer. All I see are "plain paper" and then photo type paper settings.

SOURCE: Epson Stylus Photo R800 Print Head Nozzles ??

Don't use nozzles clean function, besides ink consuming it can cause damages that cannot be fixed: black lines on the back side of the page that will be permanent. Instead put two photo paper together (2x260 gr) and push the two papers together into the printer while printing a motive including many colors. Do so a couple of times and the clogg usually disappears. Good luck! jonk

Envelopes can give all sorts of problems Back corner is flicking up. Try rolling the envelopes in the opposite direction to the "bowing" as they have been through machine once.

SOURCE: Yellow ink not printing after cleaning utilities run; others ok

This is already a printhead issue, unfortunately. Printer has not been used for a long time that is why the nozzles got clogged.
Make sure that you are using a correct genuine epson cartridge.
If your printer is over a year old now, please log on to epson.com. Go to the drivers and support page. Click on help me find a service center to the right of the page to send your printer to an epson certified servicer near to your area.

Trying to print on a #10 envelope from iMac 27 with Os 10.5.1 using iWork. Printer will not load paper

I am on an iMac using OSX 10.5.8 and printing on an Epson R1800. With iWork, word processing module I set up the envelope to print and under the File menu, select page setup and choose #10 Envelope with Portrait orientation. I feed the envelope into the printer in the normal horizontal, top first, print surface up. In the File menu I select Print and hit Return. Most of the time this works. Sometimes the envelope feeds through without printing, and occasionally the envelope won't feed but the printer goes through the printing cycle. The R1800 is not the ideal envelope printer. It is made to print photos on photographic paper. I use an old fashioned typewriter to address envelopes.

Dont no how to print on envelopes, they seem to be to long to go in where paper fits

When you open up your printer settings (got to printer and right click on properties), go to the advanced tab. In there you'll find various setting for print quality and paper sizes, choose envelopes. Make sure you insert the envelopes into you printer as specified on the printer.

How do you print envelopes on an Epson Stylus NX400?

To print an envelope in Vista, just open any document in Word, select envelope, (located under Home to the left). It will put you in the envelope program. You can type in any address and return address here. Also under options you can change the size of envelope. Hope this helps.

Epson Stylus Photo R800 (Manual Feed) missing option

I found this answer on Apple.com support discussions.  Worked for me.  There is more information available on the discussion, but this was enough to fix my problem. Try Page Setup. Select to format for your printer. The choices for different all media should now be available under the Paper Size. This is a change from previous practice of creating a separate printer for each type of media.

Ink smudging

Run a cleaning sheet through the printer- absorbant papaer- blotting paper. If this machine has had a lot of service it may be your waste tank is filling up and leaking out - have you had a service warning yet?
