Question about Teac PLD2000 System
While playing a movie on the Teac PL-D2000, it intermittently freezes and then continues. While watching a movie, this happens several times. I have tried the DVD in other players at home and this does not happen. I have taken it outside and blown the dust out with negative results.
Two things may be at work here...
If the pauses are the same each time then the player is possibly just switching data layers or chapters on the disc and needs a moment to seek, focus and re-synchronize. Different players may handle it differently. Both of mine pause like that for as long as 2 seconds.
If it's random and you see digital artifacts (squares, bars, frozen motion on parts of the image), the player is having some kind of problem reading the data and error concealment has failed so it needs to retry or think about it some more.
I have worked on a lot of technology in my time and whenever any external, human-handled media is involved I would alway start there. Is the disc PRISTENE? Though the standard for DVD is very robust it is not actually magic. Those bits are s-m-a-l-l so anything visible to the naked eye will be gargantuan at the scale this hardware operates in. Clean with a dry, soft, lint-free cloth wiping in radial motions, center to edge, because the data is written like an LP record in circular tracks. If you happen to make a small scratch it will be across tracks instead of parallel to them so the error correction circuitry (magic) can probably deal with it better. A bit of mild glass cleaner on the cloth to just moisten it works well. You should treat any digital medium as if it were your own high-priced eyeglasses.
If it's infrequent, I wouldn't worry too much about it. Do you want to risk damaging the machine for the sake of a few glitches? That is up to you. I'd stay out of it myself.
