Acer 3050 won't boot. Disk Read Error

I am trying to boot my Acer 3050 1042 and first I get prompted for a SATA password, after entering password, I get Disk Read Error, press Alt, Ctl, Del. to restart. When I do this it prompts me for SATA password again. Vicious cycle. Any ideas? I do not have the rescue disk from Acer.

Looks like hardware failure.

find out what harddisk exactly you do have in the bios :
- press Del or F1 or F2 during booting, goto IDE devices, look for the model, size (in GB) etc.,
write down (the manufacturer could be: samsung, seagate, maxtor, fujitsu...)

- then change order of boot devices so that cd/dvd-rom drive and /or 3,5 '' floppy drive boots
before the harddisk, exit saving changes (F10 or Esc)

- then get diagnosis program from the harddisk manufacturer's homepage,
copy that to a bootable floppy disk or burn it to a cd-r/cd-rw which must be bootable
- boot from the cd or floppy, run diagnosis tool, both short and long test, what does it say then?
- if hardformat is available, perform one
- might work now, at least the hd will be recognized
-setup new windows installation.
have fun

Forgot login password for windows vista home premium

You can try to reset the password in Vista with command prompt.
1. Press F8 to enter Advanced Boot Options just before the Windows loading screen appears.
2. Choose Safe Mode with Command Prompt.
3. Log in with an administrator account when you can see the log on screen.
4. Type net user in the command prompt and then hit Enter. All the Windows account user names will be listed for you.
5. Type net user Helen 123 and hit Enter.
'Helen' is your locked Windows account user name. And '123' is the new password you want to reset for the account.

If you cannot enter the safe mode, I'm afraid you have to create a password reset disk with a CD or USB drive as follows. Otherwise, reinstallation will be your only choice.
Step 1: Download and install Windows Password Reset Deluxe from http://www.windowspasswordreset.net in any computer from its official site
Step 2: Use CD/DVD/USB drive to create a password disk via the program.
Step 3: Boot your locked computer from CD/DVD or USB
Step 4: Reset Windows password with the burned CD/DVD or USB flash drive.

The windows has to be reinstalled ( Formatting the Hard Disk with DATA LOSS) Select models have the ability to have the operating system reinstalled from a hidden drive built into the computer.
To start the system recovery:
  1. Restart the netbook.
  2. When the Acer logo appears on the screen, press the Alt and F10 keys repeatedly.
  3. If you are prompted with a Microsoft Windows boot screen, press the Enter key.
  4. After the system recovery program has loaded, follow the prompts to reinstall the Operating System.
  5. Select ' completely restore to factory defaults

Cant remember recovery password for recovery of my acer aspire 3050

I don't think there is a recovery password..It may be the BIOS one ..and asks you that cause it needs to boot from the recovery partition ..try it ..If it is not working ..and you do not remember setting a password for it ..try on the support site ..maybe there is a factory one .....(also try the manual in this case it may be mentioned..)
If you know for sure you inserted a password for it ..and now you can not remember it ..im not sure you will be able to use it ..unless you find a way to eliminate it ..Or ..try to use a recovery disk from now on ..or a boot-able disk with the operation system and install it normally and not from the partition ..
If it is the same with the bios password ..I understood there are ways to remove it ..using either a password generator ..or a master one from the manufacturer support site ..or removing its battery ..(BIOS battery )

Make a note of this password.
4. Reset your system. When the Enter Primary Master HDD User Password prompt appears, enter the
password you made a note of in step 3.

How do I do a full recovery with the disc

Turn your computer on.

Insert the Disk and choose to enter BIOS, should be F2 but watch the screen to see the right function key.

Change the boot device order to: CD-ROM, HDD in that order.

Save changes and restart the computer.

The Recovery Disk would boot up and a wizard will guide you through the recovery process.

Follow the instructions to recover your computer.

Error code unmountable_boot_volume and it wont let me go into safe mode

Could also be a hard drive issue. Try going to the BIOS and look for the Drive category. Look for SATA Operations and change it to ATA. Save the changes, then exit the BIOS,

Running the Dell diagnostics on the hard drive wll also be a good idea. Turn off the system and then hold down the FN key, then press the power button. This should start the computer and initiate the diagnostics test which should check the hard disk and memory for errors.

Aspire M1100 boot up problem

Method 1

Edit the Boot.ini file to restore or correct the Default entry and to ensure that the other entries in the [Operating Systems] section of the Boot.ini file point to the appropriate directories.

Method 2

Use the Bootcfg utility in the Recovery Console to correct the Boot.ini file:

1. Use the Windows XP CD-ROM to start your computer.
2. When you receive the message to press R to repair Windows by using the Recovery Console, press the R key.
3. Select the Windows installation that you want, and then type the administrator password when prompted.
4. Type bootcfg /rebuild, and then press ENTER.
5. When the Windows installation is located, the following instructions are displayed:
Add installation to boot list? (Yes/No/All)
[Type Y in response to this message.]

Enter Load Identifier:
[This is the name of the operating system. Type Windows XP Professional or Windows XP Home Edition.]

Enter OS Load options:
[Leave this field blank, and then press ENTER].
After you perform the preceding steps, restart the computer, and then select the first item on the boot menu. This should allow Windows XP to start normally.

After Windows XP has successfully loaded, the Boot.ini can be modified to remove the incorrect entry.

Method 3

1. Start the computer by using your Windows XP CD-ROM. Press any key to boot from the CD.
2. After the setup files are finished loading press R to repair using Recovery Console.
3. When you are in the recovery console, select the installation to log on to (usually number 1), and then press ENTER.
4. Login to the Administrator account by typing the password for this account, and then press ENTER.
5. At the recovery console command prompt, type the following command, and then press ENTER:

For Uni-Processor systems:
expand <cd-drive>:\i386\ntoskrnl.ex_ <hd-drive>:\Windows\system32\ntoskrnl.exe
For Multi-Processor systems:
expand <cd-drive>:\i386\ntkrnlmp.ex_ <hd-drive>:\Windows\system32\ntoskrnl.exe
Note In these two commands, the <cd-drive> placeholder represents the drive letter of your CD drive, and the <hd-drive> placeholder represents the drive letter of the hard disk on which windows is installed.
6. If you receive a prompt to overwrite the file, press Y.
7. Type exit, and press ENTER at the command prompt.

Method 4
Start the computer by using the Recovery Console, and then run theCHKDSK /rcommand.

Note You do not have to include the /p switch in the Chkdsk command-line because the /r switch causes the Chkdsk utility to locate bad sectors and recover readable information. This command implies the /p switch..
