Re: scanners turn on automatically

How old are those battery's? The below is copyed from Aging is a concern with most lithium-ion batteries and many manufacturers remain silent about this issue. Some capacity deterioration is noticeable after one year, whether the battery is in use or not. The battery frequently fails after two or three years. It should be noted that other chemistries also have age-related degenerative effects. This is especially true for nickel-metal-hydride if exposed to high ambient temperatures. At the same time, lithium-ion packs are known to have served for five years in some applications. Manufacturers are constantly improving lithium-ion. New and enhanced chemical combinations are introduced every six months or so. With such rapid progress, it is difficult to assess how well the revised battery will age. Storage in a cool place slows the aging process of lithium-ion (and other chemistries). Manufacturers recommend storage temperatures of 15°C (59°F). In addition, the battery should be partially charged during storage. The manufacturer recommends a 40% charge. Hope this helps

How do i replace the memory backup battery on a Symbol mc3090? The memory backup battery no longer takes a charge, changing the main battery results in loss of all setup features and programs. After a...

Hi Ken. Replacing the memory backup battery (flash/BIOS battery) on any unit is tricky to say the least. I would implore you to check and see if your scanner is still under factory warranty with Motorola/Symbol then send it in for the repair. If it's not, I would have a chat with the vendor you bought it from; a lot of times they will do little repairs like that for a reduced price since you are a customer (I know I do). If both of those fail: the BIOS battery is on the main board of the unit. To get to it you will need to remove the outer shell and then start removing components until you get to the board and the battery. Again, unless you are very experienced with electronics like this (maybe even PCs) and really confident in your abilities, I really would recommend having a professional do this. I would offer to, but our repair facilities won't be up until February of this year. If you need some suggestions on where to go or need to troubleshoot more, please feel free to send me a message or email me at I hope this helps. Good luck!

Freezes on the warm boot screen MC9000

This can be for a number of reasons.

First thing would be to try and cold boot the device:-

Remove battery half way, hold power button and trigger, push battery in fully until click and then release power and trigger

If that fails next thing would be to try and re-flash the operating system. This is done by using an SD card and loading the latest operating files onto it. The SD card slot is located under the keypad. A cross head screwdriver is required to remove the keypad. Search on symbol software download site for the latest. The download also has a readme with detailed instructions. Once the files are on perform a cold boot.

Remove battery half way, hold power button and trigger, push battery in fully until click and then release power and trigger. Drop the terminal in a cradle so that it runs on external power.

Hope this helps.

How can I replace backup battery, Every time that the rechargeable battery is removed we lost the setting for WLAN and GTL scanner program

When you set the wireless profile you set the SSID, WEP, IP etc. Which I'm sure you already know. Now you want to make them persist through either a cold boot or when the terminal has been left without a battery for a substantial amount of time.

This can be done 2 ways. When the profile has been set up highlight it by holding down the stylus on it and from the menu select export. This saves the registry key to the Application folder; a folder which persist through a cold boot. When it does cold boot it takes all the registry keys from the Application folder and builds 1 complete key.

The other way is to close the WLAN profile and selection options, from the pull down menu select export and save all profiles.

The GTL scanner program, I don’t know what this is, but you could use Motorola Start up Control to mange the program. It has a function to restore programs after a cold boot or reset.

Hope this helps.

Battery problem, MC3090

It sounds like it is. Fully charge the device to 100% and allow it to drain fully until it completely powers off, then recharge to 100% again while the device is powered off (usually takes 2 hours +) if that doesn't alleviate the 'memory effect' then the battery has reached the end of it's useful life and should be replaced. Good luck!

Change the backup battery in MC9060

Hello mis1539. I think I can help you here. First: are you sure the backup battery is defunct? Bear in mind that the backup battery takes about 15 hours to fully charge and will discharge if the main battery or power source is disconnected or goes completely dead for anywhere from 30 minutes to a few hours. If the backup battery discharges, the process starts all over and the backup battery will need to be charged for 15 hours again. If you think the backup battery may have discharged at some point, it could be that it never full re-charged so it will discharge and lose your settings (cache/flash memory) almost instantly. It is worth mentioning that about 95% of my clients that have this problem have fixed it by simply making sure that the unit is in it's cradle, with the battery in and charging overnight to fully recharge the backup. Again, I really would implore you to give this a shot before resorting to cracking open the unit and getting to the backup battery (which is no fun task, I assure you). If this doesn't work for you, please let me know and I can help you further. I hope this solves your problem. Good luck!

Symbol PDT 6846 - Scanner won't read 13 digit barcodes (program returns "not on file"). How do we update the scanner application?

This sounds like a programming issue. What application are you using? If you are using a terminal emulation software then you will need to check your host for the issue. If you are using a batch program where the files are stored on the scanner then you will need to check your "validation" files to make sure the code you are scanning is in the scanner.
