Operating system lost

I lost win xp os. I was searching IE when my pointer froze,no movement at all. So I shut down,it had to be a hard shutdown because of the mouse problem. I booted up,gateway loaded, then screen was black with only a small rectangle blinking in the upper left hand corner. It said I had no operating system. So I put my xp cd in to try to reinstall. A flag came up that said I had no operating system and could not find a HD. How can I install anything without these two,,the HD and OS??? dhyat3@aol.com

Win XP, 2gb ram, new Sata HD, AOL,AOL McAfee AV: when you click on anything it takes up to 5 minutes for it to activate. RAM & Pagefile usage are minimal.

My laptop will start up, then says windows was not shut down properly. usual options ie: safe mode,etc...have tried all of the above, Goes to black screen with movable cursor, but nothing else.

Did you try using your restore disks to fix the operating system?
Win XP and Windows 7 have repair options on their install disks.

At this juncture you might as well try everything before you have to reload everything. And if you have files on your hard drive that need saving, that has to be done before you install a new OS on it.

I use hp nx9010, i want to re-install windows xp but any time i try, the machine shutdown. sometimes is able to move up to copping files sometimes not then shutdown; i don't understand why is only windows...

well that is so easy to answer,
first off you are not using real HP disks are you.
sure. its old Blue Microsoft disks right,
and when you do that wrong, you get no HP chip drivers and lost more missing, even top row, fn keys dead, not just audio.

XP is a dead OS. for 3 years now, zero updates and is now a virus magnet extream.
nx9010 note book shuts down, all 3 os install different. !
old XP runs a very old and very DUMBB seteup.,exe
the newer OS run WINPE for setup.exe. vastly better and boots and loads the OS totally different.

Xp can be installed many ways, not one stated by you.

1-insert, HP install disk in CDROM drive and click, setup.exe running in a XP explorer window, live install
2: boot to HP install disk.
3: boot and hit F11 run HPs on HDD restore partition.
4: same as a above 1, or 2, but is Micro soft disk (wrong, you did it wrong, do not use mS disk) if must ask how, its a long long long story. ive done it all ways, 1000s of time. now since first PC.s ever.

if booting to XP , right or wrong CD. (its a CD right<)> or a stick
that too not stated,
it boots and you answer questions, then it starts copying
if it stalls that means, the CD is bad.
or PC is bad, you do know there are 3million transistors here to fail right? bad HDD, bad Mobo, and more. lots more
even the CPU can over heat and will shut down.

Personally I avoid all CD nows, they sux'd then and do now more.
make and ISO of your CD, (ask its easy and free)
then burn the ISO to a 4GB or bigger uSB memory stick using free RUFUS app.
boot to stick. on my HP hit F9 and pick Udisk USB. boot
bingo no more CD errors ever again.

i bet bad CD. seen it vast times, endless , but not today. too savvy now. to mess with any CD, if you copy it to ISO and get CRC errors
its a bad CD.
end pain.

the problem with real old PC most cant boot to USB
or must be BIOS flashed updated to get that.
ill now ill try to learn what yours can or can not do.
lacking ,what is there now.
but id do this first. go in to BIOS BOOT PAGE

What is the default boot order? The default boot order settings for the computer are configured in the factory. The default boot order for HP notebook PCs is listed below.
  1. Floppy disk drive
  2. Optical drive (DVD, CD-ROM)
  3. Hard drive
  4. USB device (see this?) bingo, can boot and install any OS here
  5. Network adapter

If you can't keep your laptop stable and on for longer period, and you're experiencing random shutdowns I'd say you're facing a motherboard problem. This failure is actually well known and hapens a lot with Toshiba and HP. You'll most probably need to repair the motherboard that suffers from the Maxim 1987 or Maxim 1532 power chip failure.
The repair process is fairly straightforward, but it isn't for the faint hearted. It requires a resolder of the tiny Maxim 1987 chip that should get your motherboard up and running again in no time. The other alternative is to go for a new motherboard, or just get a new laptop alltogether.
If however your laptop experiences random freezeups, and you notice that the DVD is slow at reading data, and especially if you experienced some random mouse and keyboard freezeups, then you'll need to repair the motherboard from a FSB chip failur, which causes these random freezeups, which is a bit easier to do but still a challenge.
Hope this helps

It sounds like damaged OS or registry. You need to restore the operating system. Try F8 at reboot and select "Safe Mode".

Acer laptop aspire 4710z config my notebook have problem

There could be an issue with the user accounts logins. This could be corruption in the OS when you installed it or a clashing driver . I would recommend you reinstall the Operating System with the Disks and before you start installing the drivers try to shut down and see if it shuts down properly . If it does then you know the Operating system and hardware is all fine and can continue installing one driver at a time and shutdown and restarting, continue doing this until you see which driver is causing a confict with your system. I have had a problem similar to this but it was some windows updates pack that I had done one time and had to reinstall windows too and do one by one. Hope my answer gets you closer to a solution.
