Sir,

Your heater is only a 21K BTU heater. It is not meant to heat a whole house. We don't know how big you house is, however a 21K heater will not heat 4 or 5 rooms. The best you could expect out of a Rinnai 556 would be to heat a couple of rooms that are next to each other. You will never be able to heat rooms in your house that have doors or are down the hall a ways.

Good luck,

The temp you are looking at may be an error code. 72 Room sensor, 68 Over heat, 76.80 Room sensor short, etc. What is the exact code??

I rent and have a Rinnai Energy saver 556F. I have it at 64 and the light blinks for 68. I would like to know why. It is 56 out side now thank you

Shadow,

The 68 you see is an error code. It means you have had an over heat situation. You should be able to clean the filter and fan area and restart. Turn the heater off and on again, that should reset everything and you should be good.

New heater has worked but now lights up then immediantly goes out

There should be a flame sensor similar to the one below. The tip will be directly in the flames. Try cleaning that with a piece of steel wool and try the heat again.

Our heater seems to have therostat set low. We are cold.

not sure if this unit has any type of sensor to protect you from carbon monoxide but if it is ventless and operates on gas it may be tripping on sensor any ventless unit must be operated with fresh air for combustion

Rennai 551 FA-P Never fully shuts off

Hebert,

Is there a chance there is a draft around the room temp probe? It is down low on the right side of the heater. If there is a draft the room sensor is fooled and keeps running the unit. You should be able to prove the room sensor by putting your hand over it after the stove has been running for a while. This should shut the stove down. If not there is a problem with the room sensor.

#14 is the code for over heat. Clean the circulating fan and blower blades. If there is anything on the top of the heater it need to go. Check the sides to make sure nothing is obstructing the air entering the back of the unit.

My rinnai 556fa propane heater

I had the identical trouble with my Rinnai 431F just now & read the unanswered posts.

I checked my intake & exhaust & found them connected & intact then went out to check the exterior vent assembly. The "bell" or dome was almost entirely clogged with ice.

I suspect the 60 - 76 lights flashing means insufficient combustion air.

Anyway, I took a hair dryer to it & in 10 minutes it was working as well as ever.

This won't help you October posters but if anyone else has this problem in the future I would start with the outside vent assembly. Get a good look right up inside because I would have missed this ice if I didn't get up close with a flashlight.

Here's a good source for manuals too...

My appartment does not have cenral AC/heat, it has a GE cooling/heater unit in each room. You can set up low heat or high heat but it continues runing on until you manually stop it when is to hot. Is there...

the unit runs all the time because of the fan (ventilation motor)-but it is not working on cooling or heating all the time - The ventilation motor pushes the air from the room through the machine and when the termostat is reading that you set it up for cooler air or warm air it will turn on the air conditioning part or the heating part of the machine-it is very good system actually

I can suggest a around-about solution. I also have the same model installed around the same time. I have the outlet that it is connected to controlled by an electric heat thermostat on a wall at the oposite side of the room. I keep the heater on high at all times and the thermostat controls the electricity to the outlet. It's worked great for the 13 years it's been installed.
