Backlight issue on 2006 iMac Intel 2.0GHZ

The bottom half of the screen is relatively dark compared to the top half and the overall screen brightness is down. What is the likely cause of this, please? (The hard disk has recently been replaced and we haven't used it since then)

There are two cables conecting the lcd to the logicboard the inverter cable which resides to the left of the right speaker and the video cable itself which is secured to the logicboard by two torq screws. If you had the hard drive replaced recently. The technician might have disconected the cable conected to the back of the lcd or the inverter cable is not pluged in properly. If this was working properly before you may need to call the tecnician to fix it.
Good luck

Probably the screen was not put back together correctly when taken apart.

IH252 inc monitor bottom half darker than top.

Thin screen LCD monitor brightness controls operate several fluorescent lamps called "backlights" that are positioned behind the LCD display. Typically, they're located around the edges of the screen - sometimes just at the top and bottom, and other times at the left and right edges and others still at all 4 edges.

Fluorescent "backlight" lamp, inverter & connection wiring.

The lamps are miniature versions of those sold in stores. They require a support circuitry called an inverter that convert & boosts the level of DC to AC voltage performing the functions of a ballast in a traditional fluorescent fixture.

The reason a part of your screen remains dark is because one or more of the components in the picture above has failed and will not allow the lamp to shine. Replacement lamps and inverters aren't expensive - but requires patience and the ability to disassemble / assemble the monitor (which is usually harder to do than it appears) and solder. They are available various lengths and color temperatures (you must get a lamp that is identical or it will be noticed). If this is a new monitor - you ought to return it for replacement. If used, consider the cost of purchasing a replacement (new or used) vs. repair.

I hope this helps & good luck!

The screen is really dark

Locate the Fn (Function) key on your keyboard. It may be on the bottom left side with dark blue letters. Locate the two "brightness" keys near the top of the keyboard. These will be in the "F" keys, possibly if F6 and F7. They should have little sun pictures or something similar to indicate brightness. Hold down the Fn key while pressing F7, or whichever "F" key your laptop uses to increase brightness. Tap F7 repeatedly until you reach the desired brightness. Fn must be held down as you continue to tap. Hope this helps.

Display is too Dark to work with but brightness lever up to max.

Apparently the backlight for your display is failing. You'll most likely have to have the top half of the macbook replaced per Apple usual service standards.

Whenever my Dell Precision M6300 is ever on maximum brightness, the backlight goes dark after 1-2 seconds. The screen is fully functional, but the backlight simply isn't working. I can get the backlight to...

guess there is an larger issue with your notebook.....
you need to get the backlite changed, if you have chanaged the lite then there is a compatibility issue with the screen and the invertor board that's behind the LCD screen.
or the system is not supplying the correct current to the backlite / invertor board

a HW tech guy may solve your issue

The screen is too dark to read anything though the power comes on. i tried to increase the brightness but did not work NEED HELP!!!

Sounds like your backlight or inverter is on its way out. You can pick one up on ebay.  Google how to check backlight/inverter issues with your model.

Dark screen

if the picture is REALLY dark, like you can just barely see it in a lit room, then the backlight might not be lit. LCD TVshave backlight that shines through the LCD screen which allows you to see the picture.

If it's not the backlight then it would be the brightness/contrast settings that need to be adjusted. If the picture used to be normal and all of a sudden went dark, verify the backlight. Normally you can look through the slots on the top of the set and determine if the backlight is on. If you can see a bright light through any of the slots, the backlight is probably OK... go after the brightness/contrast settings.

RCA 32V420T 32" TV

This RCA set uses the CTC187BD chassis. Look on the back of the set and to the right of the cable connector you will see 2 controls sticking out, one on top of the other. The top control is for focus and the bottom one is screen, or overall brightness. If these controls have been turned clockwise then you will have a bright, fuzzy picture with white lines (retrace lines) through it. Tune in a channel with white letters on the screen and turn the top (focus) control until the letters are crisp and sharp. Go into the menu and turn the contrast and brightness all the way down, and then turn the bottom control (screen) until you can just see the picture, just above the point where the picture is too dark to see. Go back into the menu and reset the contrast and brightness and the picture will be back to perfect.

Half the screen is dark

Sounds like half your backlight is not functioning. The only thing I suggest is to call the manufacturer thats listed in your user manual and see what they think it will cost to repair unless its still in warrantee. There are no user serviceable parts inside of this unit so i dont think it would be a good Idea for you to attemt to take it apart as it may be a system to dissasembly and you make tear or break on of the small flex cables. Good luck
