If you have already tried installing the AC '97audio driver, and it still isn't working, your best solution would be to buy a sound card. These are relatively inexpensive, and an added bonus is that it will reduce the load on your processor (CPU).

Another advantage to buying a new sound card is that it will come with a driver CD.......

I am having D101GC motherboard. Suddenly sound card stoped working. I purchased PCI sund card and it was working properly for few months and stoped working. I have formated the system and tried installing...

After installing pci soundcard you really should disable the onboard sound through bios as the PC may just have become confused as to which sound its trying to use. Also in control panel under sound devices make sure your soundcard is listed and the mute box is not checked.

Have you tried Intel's homepage? Other than that, last I bought a motherboard it came with the layout of the board.

I am not able to install sound driver. when i check in bios settings there is no sound option for disable and enable.

check under onboard chip. but if you motherboard doesn't have sound device most likely there is no option on it, if you plug a soundcard into your motherboard it will detect itself as your windows starts. there install the driver.

Unable to load soundcard driver

After re-installing your OS, install ALL CHIPSET DRIVERS before you install the audio drivers. You need to have the chipset drivers loaded before the Audio driver if you are using onboard sound.

I have intel 845 builtin souncard. but i cant find the driver

If the sound is built in to the motherboard then that driver is on the motherboard installation/bios cd. If you do not have that cd you will have to go to the motherboard manufacturers website, click on support link, lookup your specific board model # and then download the sound driver for the operating system you are using. After download install you should be up and running. Hope this helps & please take a moment to rate this solution. Thanks.

hi,
i hope this helps. since you don't have any idea what your mobo is, it's best to have adiagnostic tool installed (everest ultimate or belarc advisor). you can download them for free inb the internet.it will give you many useful information about your system.
you can also go to your control panel and look for device manager and look for a highlighted device (ususally colored orange or with a question mark) and right click it for properties and look for driver problems. xp will give you suggestions on how to fix it.
finally if the builtin sound is really busted, you can install a seperate pci soundcard and install the soundcard together with the driver oof that souncard if windows does not automatically detect and install that soundcard.
