JVC AV-48WP30 Problem

A friend has a JVC AV-48WP30 that the picture has gone blurry. He has replaced the set, and I'm considering taking it. He states that it went out before, and the repair was a $1000.00. He tells me that the red CRT was the problem, and I'm wondering if I'm just going to inherit his problem. Where, if I should take the set, would I find the best deal on parts for this particular set. As well as, simplified instructions as to the replacement of the CRT.
Thanks,
Robert

CRT rear projection TVs, if older then 5 years, are headache only as CRTs are hard to buy/ replacement.

Looks like 3D Picture

You probly have a convergence cicuit failure. Replacing the convergencr IC's will probly fix it.
I recommend a professional repairman to
do it though. Particularly if it needs further adjustments after the IC's are replaced.

I have double blurry vision with green and purple/red splashes on all inputs (ghostlike)

This is a very common problem. If you want to fix this yourself you will need to be able to solder, but other than that its a very easy fix. Both the convergence output ic's need to be replaced (PN STK392-110). If you have a repairman do this for you it will run $300-$500 to repair. Let me know if you want to fix this yourself and i will assist you further.

Red and Blue shadowing (Where are my 3d glasses)

There are two convergence IC's that are bad and need to be replaced, as this happens to almost every rear projectionj set ever made. They are stand up IC's , on a heatsink and they start with STK. They are soldered into place and this set has no user replaceable parts inside of it. If you have no solid state repair experience, you really should call out a trained tech to assist you in this repair. A TV set is no place to be diggin and experimenting inside of.
