Question about Danby Silhouette DWC512BL Wine Cooler

1 Answer

Loud noise Unit has suddenly developed a loud noise comeing from the back compressor area. Unit is 2-3 yrs old. It is built in and seems to get extremly hot along the top front area just above the handel? If we unplug it and let it cool down and restart it is ok for a week or so and then dose it again.

Unit seems to be dead. No fan or compressor noise. Unplugged the unit but still nothing when plugged back in.

The compressor fan is making the noise and causing overheating as well. Easy fix. Call Danby with model # and they can figure out correct fan. Part will cost around $10 and is easy to replace. Plug and play with screws. Good luck

I had the same issue. Bought a new fan in Calgary, AB, Canada from Reliable Parts, 403-253-1300. $26. Give them the Danby model number and mention that you need a CONDENSER MOTOR FAN, MODEL 1225S2 (the fan is made by Ruilian Science, model RAL1225S2). Their model number is slightly different but they got the info from the Danby model number. I hope this gives someone out there less trouble than I have had. Very easy to install yourself - just take a picture of the old fan and wiring before you disassemble (plug and play wiring).

Constant loud noise when frig turns on/comes from bottom

when the compressor is running unplug the ref. and if you hear the noise coming from the compressor then
a ballance spring may be broken inside the compressor.

The compressor will run normally with a broken spring it will just be annoying when it shuts down.

Kitchen Aid refrigerator is making a very loud noise!

when you transported this unit did you lay it down or stand it up? If it was layed down then you should of waited at least 24 hours before plugging it up again to give the oil in the compressor time to settle back down. Actually either way it was transported it still needed the 24 hour rest time. So if you automatically plugged it in after transportation you could have messed up the compressor. Let it set unplugged for 2 days then plug it in and see what happens. If loud noise persists then you know the compressor is shot. Goog Luck.

Loud noise when stops ''running''.

the noise your hearing  is a weak spring in the compressor. what happens is the compressor is a motor inside of a steel shell that spins at high rpm's when the unit shuts down and as the compressor starts to stop the weak spring is allowing the compressor motor to bang against the steel shell. around here we actually call these "Bangers". anyway the fix is obviously to replace the compressor. but considering the age of the unit you may want to move it to the garage and buy a new one for the kitchen.
Btw in my experience this does not interfere with normal operation of the unit it is just annoying. If I can be of further assistance please ask thanks Peyton

Loud humming noise as fridge is running

if you have ice buildup then the fridge may be low on freon.
or there is dust clogging around the pump or fan is not running.
remove the bottom or back and look around the compressor.
see that the fan is running.

Loud buzzing noise from compressor area and freezer not cold enough

I have a 1.5 year old GE refrigerator and freezer. This unit had not given me any problems until 2 days ago when I constantly heard a loud buzzing sound coming from the freezer. I called GE and Best Buy (bought it there) and asked to troubleshoot this over the phone. They suggested sending a technician over for $100 just for the visit + labor + parts which could add up to hundreds of dollars. So, I researched the web and blogs like this. The answer to my problem was simple. Something that I placed inside the freezer was blocking the air circulation vent. So, I turned off the whole refridgerator and I removed everything from my freezer. For good measure I dislodged some ice and frost that had developed over the vent. I carefully put back everything into the freezer, but this time being careful not to block the vent. I turned on the power and voila! No more buzzing sound!!! I hope this works for you too.
